It is recorded that medieval pilgrims travelled in groups for safety. The first member of any group to see the cathedral was given the title ‘Rex’ (King). That is why these statues were placed here.
Hi all, on 8th October I will be leaving Santiago to walk to St.Jean as part of a longer walk. Please take time to say Hi if we meet.
Enjoy your space.
Sorry to be pedantic, but, "head banging" isn't quite correct - on the reverse side of the Tree of Jesse is a statue thought to be of one of the architects of the building Master Mateau. Pilgrims touched their forehead to the statues' forehead 3 times to share his knowledge.
The most favourable time to see and experience "wildlife" is just before dawn. They are commonly to be found in communal sleeping areas. There is a species which stirs very early in the morning and rearranges all of their belongings noisily. The "wildlife" are to be found in close proximity to...
Winter on the Francais is very quiet and the cold never became unbearable.
Have you thought of Roncesvalles to Santiago then turning south and walking the Via de la Plata in reverse?
Following a horrible tragedy in the mountains of Scotland a number of years ago many shelters were demolished. The reasoning was that the unskilled/unwary were lured further into danger by their presence, thinking that if they pushed on they would be safe in a shelter. Children died.
It would...
Enjoy your time on the Camino, BUT, the hardest "letting go" you will do is after you are home.
Letting go of the Camino.
In truth you cannot, because the Way becomes part of you, a lovely warm cosy part which is very hard to ignore.
It keeps calling.
I was "stuck" with a Camino companion whom I just didn't like (come to think of it it happened twice).
I got out of the situation by pulling a "rest day" and met new faces.
It may be that the route isn't wrong for you but the people you are travelling with!!!!
Hi all,
I have both cycled and walked the Camino so can see things from both sides.
While walking, wearing my kilt, I was overtaken by a fast moving, well spaced out, string of 5 cyclists. I had no warning of their approach and the first brushed my shoulder as she passed. I was still cursing as...

Hi Johnnie, fae a very cold and snowy Markinch.
I am with you in spirit (last night it was "Oban").
Over my years of wandering I have often pondered on why some enterprising soul hasn't invented dehydrated whisky for folks like us.
Stay strong and enjoy yourself.
Yours Aye

Hi all,
I dropped in to visit Rebekah and her husband when I passed through on a cold day in February this year. The warmth of the welcome and hospitality they extended to me still generates a warm glow when I think about it.
Although the building was far from finished it was clear that this was...
Hi,
Re Cizur Minor. The albergie Roncal is wonderful but be aware that it doesn't open until 4pm. I can reinforce the info about the local meal, it was one of the best I had on the whole journey. Mirabel, who is multi-lingual, will point you in the right direction.

Good morning Javier.
Great photographs please keep them coming.
I would think that you are going to have fun in the mud in a day or two.
Enjoy your space.

Travel Insurance
Hi,
I have twice had cover while walking the camino with a U.K. company -
"Globelink" Telephone No.0870 112 8208.
From memory 6 weeks cover was circa £60/70.
Unfortunately I had to use the cover and found the service superb.

In addition I had travel insurance and I am afraid I had to use it. When I was stricken during the night I was able to telephone the...
Good Evening Gentlemen,
Nice to read postings from you both.
Wannes - in case you are wondering I walked the full distance nae bother. I still remember the Spanish phrase we learned when we shared a beer but I didn't get to try it out. I do hope you meant "funny" in the amusing sense.
