I left SJDP on Saturday 6th May last year. SJDP was not at all full and there were not many pilgrims on the way to Orrison where I had pre-booked a bed for the night. The journey to Roncesvalles was again quite lightly populated with pilgrims - I had not booked ahead for a bed at Roncesvalles...
What a wonderful journey for both of you and what a very special son you have and what a very special mum he has ! - Why not complete the Camino Frances next time from St.jean to Astorga ?
Sorry to read this and cannot suggest an alternative to get you to St. Jean. Ryanair have an obligation to provide an alternative flight - so you will be able to claim compensation which may go some way in defraying your costs> See this article from todays BBC news...
Hi Brian
I know others on this forum have had different experiences but this is what I found.
I walked this year from St.Jean to Santiago leaving on the 6th May and arriving in Santiago in the first week of June. I stayed mostly in albergues and had only one issue with finding a bed for the...
I stayed in and can highly recommend the Leon Hostel wich is about 200 metres from the cathedral - http://www.leonhostel.es/ -
Just checked on booking.com and they have a twin bed room available for the 29th September for 30 euros.
Hi Gil
I hope both you and your wife are recovering well from your injuries. I too am in my mid seventies and completed my first camino in May/June of this year. I walked from St Jean to Santiago and then on to Finisterre – it was also my first long distance walk, my first use of a back pack...
Hi Jeff
I guess when you are working on the UK motorway system you are working in saftey controlled zones with cones/barriers with restricted speeds for those motorists passing the working areas and with floodlights at night ? As pilgrims on this route there are times when we are walking in...
Just splitting hairs here –in the context of this discussion “Camino” means “Way” as in El Camino de Santiago – The Way of St James. I understand the difference between those that choose to follow the path for pilgrimage or for other reasons – I met one man who told me he was doing it for “the...
Well to answer the original question we need to consider the birth and life of the Way of St James to fully understand how it has endured for so many years and will IMHO continue to endure.
Yes I was referring to the 5th book in which I believe, and please correct me if I am wrong, there were 4...
There were defined routes in the 12th century - "The Codex Calixtinus is a XII-century manuscript jewel, considered the first and most famous guide to the Camino of Santiago."
I to walked my first Camino in May of this year and experienced the same as you. "The Way of St James" has been a pilgrimage route since the 10th century and for pilgrims it will always be there.
