2-3 weeks....Pamplona is a nice starting place. Or you can just start in Leon or Sarria and take your time getting to Santiago. Starting in Sarria with 2-3 weeks is more than enough time to get to Santiago. That would give you more time to stop along the way and just relax in nature. Buen Camino
1. Eat what looks good - try it all but more importantly stay hydrated.
2. Hiking Shoes not boots. Salomon are good.
3. Don’t miss the camaraderie and the solitude. Don’t miss that both are important. And don’t miss that the true blessing is the journey and not the destination.
Walk with God...
I also stayed at HOSTEL RIO ARGA IBAIA - 2X - it had a large kitchen, lots of utensils to make your own meal, private rooms, and dorms with two or three bunkbeds in each room. It was clean and had a nice bath and a fair price. And Zubiri was my favorite little town on the Camino.
It has been mentioned already but worth repeating...stop in Le Refuge Orisson the first day. It's a beautiful experience to sleep in the Pyrenees! And, it makes for a much shorter and more manageable first day. https://www.refuge-orisson.com/en
I paid $65 euro for mine at a store in SJPDP. (Just for a point of $ reference) They made all the difference and it was the best purchase I made on the Camino!
First, don't be anxious. You will be fine. The arrows pointing you in the right direction are numerous. AND...even if you start going the wrong way, you will realize very quickly. There are backpack transport for around $5 a day. They will pick up your pack and drop it off in the town/albergue...
It’s only a short distance from Saint Jean Pied de Port, but staying at Refuge Orisson is a treat.

How many people can say they’ve slept in the Pyrenees.
I’m sorry about your daughter’s situation. I think the Universe is saying, your perfect Camino will not take place on July 7, 2023…but it will happen and when it does you will meet the people you were supposed to meet and have the experiences you were meant to have and at that point you will be...
That sounds like a fantastic trip. Thanks for all the info. I'm curious what your covid testing experience was when traveling. Did you have to test when landing in Paris before you could leave the airport?
Here's the thing about Orisson Alb. - they have no urgency. they know they will get lots of people/reservations. They will get to you when they get to you. But they WILL get to you. Now that you know, just relax and wait for them to eventually get to you with a confirmation.
"the Albergue didn't give a damn, the local police shrugged their shoulders" This is very disappointing. The Albergue should care and the police should try to do something because Spain and many of their citizens rely on the money/income that comes from the pilgrims. If it became too dangerous...
May 19, 2019 I walked from St. Jean Pied de Port to Orisson in a very strong rain storm, completely soaked and so glad we had a room in Orisson. I was just wondering if that was the same time you were walking to Zubiri? Walking with the water....good advice.
Walking 8 miles at home is like walking 16 miles on the Camino because you just do it. Once I was standing at the bottom of a hill and looking up and almost about to cry because I was worn out and this dear German pilgrim noticed me and said very sweetly to me, "You have to keep going because...
I walked CF in May 2016 and will again this May. When I got home from my first camino I realized I didn't pay close enough attention. I was looking to get to the destination more than enjoying the journey of getting there. This time I know I will have a much more "stay in the moment" approach...
