I never thought I would say this...

That was my most favorite portion of the Frances. I love walking up steep inclines. I absolutely hate walking down them though. So up was great, down was definitely not. Did a bit of foot damage on that part.

    Announcement Refuge Orisson

Sounds reasonable and I hope to be there soon!

The unpredictable ends of my Camino!

Hi Andy....Sorry to hear you had to end the camino with an injury but it certainly was not a failure!! It was just preparation and research for the real camino when you return. :-) Tuo padre deve essere fiero di te!

Decrease in numbers walking the Camino Frances through Palencia province

Am I the only one that is happy to see an increase in pilgrims? I think of those small, nearly deserted villages and the people begging the passing by pilgrims to stop to eat at their cafe. I would love to see those places come to life and thrive. Yes, finding a place to sleep "unplanned" might...

    Suggestions-Children and Lodging and Trains

Hi everyone. I thought I would update about our Camino. So far, we have taken it slow with the 3 girls and have made it to Boente on our 9th day. They are loving it for the most part. The rain gets a bit difficult for them but they actually seem to like that better than the hot days. We did not...

The Shame of Starting in Sarria

Thank you everyone for your comments. I will go and take my best attitude and make this a great experience for them. I suppose it will be as good as I make it for them. :-) I do wonder, back before planes, trains, bikes and wagons... people started walking from their doorsteps, not just at the...

The Shame of Starting in Sarria

I have about 2 weeks to walk the Camino with my 4, 5 and 10 year old grand daughters. I’m not getting younger and I really want to have this experience with them. So we planned to walk starting at Sarria. But with all the negative comments I have heard on YouTube and forums, it makes me think it...

    The Meseta.

I highly recommend En El Camino. Calle Francos, 1, 34468 Boadilla del Camino, Palencia, Spain. You have choices of a modern (very affordable) hotel or albergue style. Great ppl and food.

Leaving on my first Camino in the morning & I'm terrified. Please help!

Hi Elisha! You really have little to "fear". You will soon feel right at home on the camino. I started and failed my camino in 2015 due to health reasons and a foot injury shortly after starting....but...it was still awesome. I used this forum for guidance and all of the people were absolutely...

    Suggestions-Children and Lodging and Trains

I really like this idea and I am going to see what my daughter thinks of the littlest one actually walking the distance. I have managed to free up an extra week so that gives us about 24 days to do it, so I think that could allow us some rest days if the little one gets a bit cranky about the...

Thank you so much Mark McCarthy! I am definitely using your Itinerary. I ran across it in another post before I even saw your response here. One question, what does it mean when you list "Taxi Backwards" and "Taxi Forward"? Buen Camino!

Thanks SabineP! You made me feel better about my idea. I was a little hesitant thinking I was insane considering doing it this way but if it goes bad, we can always turn around and go home. :-) I think it is well worth it for the experience. I know they will enjoy most of it and will surely have...

    Suggestions-Children and Lodging and Trains

Good day to everyone! I am considering hiking a minimum of the last 100km with my 10 year old grand daughter. I live in France and she lives in the USA. So I want to fly her mom (my daughter) and her two younger daughters (4 and 5) to come spend time in Spain with us. This is what I was...

    Very sick in Castrojeriz

I totally agree. When you are sick or not well, planning alternate transportation or medical care becomes far more stressful. I wish I had at least understood the sizes of the cities on the route better and the transportation options there were.

    Very sick in Castrojeriz

I think you are all spot on with your advice and suggestions. After returning and going to my regular doctor, he said much the same as everyone here. Exhaustion and dehydration made worse by some kind of bug in the beginning. I've been home a week and I still feel tired so I know I certainly...

    Very sick in Castrojeriz

Well I have sadly decided to stop and save my trip for another time when I am well again. I just cannot get my strength back in this heat. There has been so much great information and support! I really appreciate it.

    Very sick in Castrojeriz

Falcon.... I cannot agree with you more. Of course I've only had a small taste of the Camino but I can see a difference already. Him and his family /staff actually want to be a part of our camino, not just use the Camino to support them. I see the look of hurt and disappointment when a pilgrim...

    Very sick in Castrojeriz

This will be a short update until Rest up a bit but I really wanted to let you all know where I am and that I SO MUCH appreciate your thoughts and assistance. I got up this morning and for the first time in a long time actually peed normally so I thought I was strong enough to make it to...

    Very sick in Castrojeriz

I've been staying a few days at Le Mesón and have a single room which is very nice. Tonight I feel somewhat better and lord knows I should since I'm on my second box of immodium! I went for a walk to see how I felt. Really weak but maybe in the morning I will be much better and can start...
