Devastated in the albergue municipal in Monte do Gozo

I also walked by it for a first time in June 2016, and agree wholeheartedly about a dystopian future, and everything that was said above. My thinking was, 'thank goodness we decided earlier NOT to stop here"! Wow, very scary looking place.

    Palas de Rei to Arzua

This section is very hilly, up, down, up, down, all day long. I was exhausted! I had broke it into 2 days. Palas to Melide, Melide to Arzua...even so, up, down, up down, up down.....I really began to hate going down, because I knew I was going to have to go back up!

New and Old trail into Portomarin

Mark, you don't remember any nasty steep section because you took the easier way behind the buildings and not the nastier newer section that branches off the road. If someone would only add that green line on the map it would become clear there is 3 seperate ways into Portomarin.

New and Old trail into Portomarin

Jeff, thank you for that map showing the old (yellow) and new (blue). BUT...I dont know how to do it, and would if I could... We need to ADD a green line which branches off the blue which is showing the dangerous new route. The green line branches off onto the road to the left to the easier...

New and Old trail into Portomarin

Dougfitz, I was there in June this year also. I stopped in Vilacha to ask about the new route. Apparently the OLD route approaching Portomarin's bridge from the right is no longer marked. The new route heads down the road in the opposite direction where it then splits off, to the right and the...

This is a very Negative Post. A Vent.

Annie, I so relate to your frustration. I was very frustrated everytime I came to a mojone and saw it scribbled on, or bridge underpass with graffiti, and all the toilet paper and garbage thrown around. Who does this and for what purpose? Why can't people just leave things alone? In another...

Feeling a little judged from other commenters so...

I've just returned from my camino...Sarria to Santiago. I used CaminoWays to organize my trip. I broke it down to complete it in 8 days...plenty of time. Walked anywhere from 7-12 mikes a day which was just right for me. It wasn't easy walking with what I considered 2 days from hell. It was...

How Many People Walked The Camino Without Any Training ?

I don't know what gradient these hills are, but i'm using these as training hills. Can someone tell me if this is representative of the trails from Sarria to Santiago please. Do I need to increase the grade?

How Many People Walked The Camino Without Any Training ?

Dougfitz, what do you consider 'substantial' elevation gain?

After Portomarin is better to turn right

Being new and never have travelled any of the 3 routes out of Portomarin...which way is 'easier'? I see the left trail is 'longer' and the right way 'shorter', but which way would be easier for an old woman? I am worried about this stretch of the way.

    Walking from Sarria to Santiago

Yes, I'm sorry if the question is not understood. Let me try again: I'm flying INTO Santiago de Compostela and then trying to get myself into Sarria to start my walk. I don't know how to get to Sarria from Santiago. Can someone tell me if there is a bus that goes there, and how to find out...

    Walking from Sarria to Santiago

I know this thread is old, but hopefully someone is still reading it that could help me out. I'm trying to get from Santiago de Compostela to Sarria via bus. Does anyone know what I should do?

Some of my biggest advice for newbies

All the above advise has been awesome, and I DO appreciate all of it. I know all this must seem silly to you veterans, but to me, its PRICELESS! @Lachance, I went out tonight and bought women's Ecco's Yuchatan's, not the Off Roads. Nice thing about R.E.I. Is that I can actually wear and hike...

Sarria to Santiago, 9 days walking.

Some of my biggest advice for newbies

Understood. Interesting too that you walk without socks at all. I have friends who walked Sarria to Santiago when it rained the entire time. She HATED her wet shoes and socks each day. I guess I had that in mind when I posted. I should have said, "I'll take the sealskins along, but as your...

Some of my biggest advice for newbies

Thank You Kanga. Funny that you should be the one to respond, as I'm such a fan of your advise in other threads. I'm taking your advise to buy Ecco hiking sandals and sealskins socks as my preferred footwear rather than boots or trail runners. Thank you so much for your valued opinions.
