Thanks for sharing this. I've occasionally wondered how David has fared. A bit of a camino legend. I first met him in 2013 and subsequently had the opportunity to visit with him on two other occasions. A very interesting individual and I'm pleased to learn that he is still finding his way.
Just go into one of the local businesses on the same street where the pilgrim office is located and this will give you a stamp. Worked for me. Have a wonderful Camino!
yes I arrived a couple of days ago. Now in Los Arcos also enjoying a nice glass of vino tinto! It’s supposed to get much colder this weekend!! Yikes! Stay safe and of course have lots of fun. I’m surprised how many are here still walking.
This is good information. I'll be finishing the Arlés route and joining the Frances sometime in mid-late October. I plan to carry both a silk liner and a 500 gram down blanket that is large enough to form to a sleeping bag using Velcro strips. I'm hoping that this combination will be warm enough...
Nola, it will definitely be colder and wetter than what you experienced last year, but I'm sure that you're expecting this. You will also have some good weather days as you progress. Make sure you have the type of wet gear and footwear that you are comfortable with. Personally I use an Altus...
There's lots of good advice from many folks posted here. You can often use booking.com to book accommodations on the Frances. There are so many options on the route, a huge infrastructure that it's near impossible to go wrong. I agree, the albergues can wear a bit thin after a time, but I...
I agree with many opinions posted here. Next month I'll begin my Caminos from Leon and like others it will really begin from Virgen del Camino and I'll again follow the southern option to Hospital. The next day a shorter stage to Murias followed by Foncebadon and Ponferrada before setting off on...
I have carried my poles out of Canada three different times in my pack as carry on without a problem to this point. Prior to my first Camino I visited our local airport and spoke with two different security people and was told that the poles wouldn't be a problem. I have also carried them on...
The stage from Castrojeriz to Fromista will always be held closely in my heart. Last fall as I walked off the mesa where the 18% grade sign is posted (picture in barritzdon's photo - post #42) I made the decision to retire which will occur within the next 30 days. On the same day I also made...
Returned home 6 weeks ago, and you will find the Valcarlos route a very enjoyable walk with minimal time spent on the busier highway portion (as commented above you do not feel at risk during the day). The route was fairly well marked with the trail exits from the highway very clearly marked...
Does anyone have information about alternate transport for this portion? My wife is recovering well from a knee injury, but has been advised to avoid this climb by her physio and doctor so that she does not risk re-aggravate the injury at the start of our journey together. I will walk this...
