I second the recommendation for Casa Blanco for all the reasons stated above by LavanyLea! Far and away the best place we stayed between Sarria and Santiago.
We did this 5 day route and it worked well:
Day 1 Sarria to Portomarin
Day 2 Portomarin to Palas de Rei
Day 3 Palas de Rei to Viños/(Arzua)
Day 4 Viños/(Arzua) to O Pino
Day 5 O Pino to Santiago
We did option two and it was quite reasonable. We did, however, make a critical stop in Melide at Pulperia Ezequiel for a pulpo (octupus) lunch and the only beer we had while we were in the middle of a walk .
I likewise used CamelBak Eddy water bottle (1L.) with Hands-free adapter. I loved it and will not use anything else in the future (assuming the availability of frequent refill sites as exists on the Camino).
In our haste and excitement to start our Camino, we managed to forget to have our pilgrim passports stamped at our pension in Sarria. Already prepared to taxi back to Sarria from Portomarin to obtain our stamps, we were very pleased to walk upon Casa Barbadelo and obtaining our stamp showing...
Having recently completed that route in five days, I would not have wanted to do it in four. It is doable, but the hills and long distances can take their toll. We were fit and had trained reasonably well. If there is anyway you can stretch it to five days, I would recommend it. We did Sarria...
