Did the Valcarlos last June. The road walking was not as bad or as long as I anticipated. The second day climb is steep but wonderful through an enchanted forest. Some rain and quite farm roads. On 06/23 when I walked the Valcarlos, the napoleon route was completely fogged in.
Joe,
Depending on weather, the first day on the Valcarlos is very doable in 4 hrs. or less. Gentle climb and scenic pastureland and farms. Really enjoyed it on 23.06.21. Day 2 has some real challenges to it. Very enchanting forest walking and steep climbs. More dirt a than asphalt. If you have...
Consider the Aragón route either starting in Olonon Ste Marie France and walk over the mountain, or begin in Jaca (via a bus to Canfra Estation in Spain)
Couldn’t agree more with your comments. When I was there last September for the town harvest festival, 3 pilgrims had been staying at the albergue for multiple nights; up to a week. Christine told me in a year she would like to sell it in case anyone is interested.

Sounds like you may want to consider coming over the Somport Pass through Canfrac to Jaca.: known as the Aragonese Route (check it out). It connects with the CF at Eunate (near Puerto de Reina). If you plan on passing through Pamploma, you can take a local bus to Sanquesa (one hour) and catch a...
Adding another voice to the conversation. My pack is 36L and I try to bring only clothing etc. that have multiple uses. With that in mind, I've found it handy to bring a dark gray pullover cashmere sweater that I can sleep in or wear over a wicking shirt in the morning or under a rain jacket if...
