Best time/temperature to walk the Camino Frances

When I talk to folks who have walked numerous routes & locations over multiple years, no year is the same for rain/snow. Yet I do take notice that some settle into a fall walk Oct- Nov or an Early April Thru May. Then you meet the folks who really like the heat. July - August. Personally I...

Planning for Camino Frances April 2023 - How cold is it?

You never know why you will get on any given year. I was glad for my sleeping bag the first half of April, by the third week blankets or just a down blanket was plenty.

I totally get the concern about being alone, I think worse case you may have to dine alone. But I think the sooner you communicate your wish to have a walking “family” you may be suprised at those that feel the same. Harsh weather seems to pull people together. Buen Camino Keith

    Where are the arrows?

I found you can see the spires as it is on a small hill. But if you leave to walk to Finnesterre/Muxia get a map,the green arrows take you but the arrows change to yellow & back to green. Unless they have redone them since 2014. Once in Santiago it is easy to find maps

Is there demand for an alternative but integretated hostal/albergue in O Cebreiro?

Since you ask about experience of staying I want to reiterate what others have mentioned it is mountain terrain, the farming difficult & finding an old Farmhouse that is not falling in will be difficult. Like most mountain communities they do everything themselves, so you will need a good...

As seasons change albergue times you must be out by do not

That’s a bummer! Like you I attempted a couple dark walks what I found was I had to use my Le flashlight that could light up a long way but would blind anyone misfortunate to step into the beam. So I stopped using it & waited til daylight. For those walking in winter it must be a bugger.

Just a couple suggestions about fires if you can’t see more than 300 Meters, your in bad smoke for your health bus out of it. If you see fire in the distance with high winds the smoke will puff big plumes of smoke in a row turn around & bus around it. Fire moves very fast in those conditions it...

    Camino April/May 2018

No you will find travel to your starting point may be the most time consuming prep. Once you find the yellow arrows follow them. the rest you will figure out quick.
