That is very helpful. Yes, I found the Valcarlos route just as you say. I did not find the Zubiri descent too difficult as I took my time on the shale (but it was good weather).
Again, thanks
I walked the Valcarlos route to Roncevalles but am planning to do the Napoleon this April. I have a couple of questions if any pilgrim can help me:
1. I would like to do the shorter but more difficult way down from the top. I have watched a number of videos but everyone I saw took the longer...
I was 78 when I walked it in April this year. It can be exhausting but always exhilirating. I'm on the shy side and only speak English with an Aussie accent and I also have some hearing loss. No problem walking alone as so many around willing to give friendship and help if needed.
Go for it!
I'm having to take a suitcase when I do my camino in May this year. I have no alternative.
I'm aware of Jacotrans and Correos but my question is: How do I access them? I'm starting in SJPdP so do I get an envelope from the place I'm staying, fill it in with my next destination and place the...
I am planning to do the remaining part of my Camino next April. The previous occasion this year I used a travel company who organised my accommodation and luggage transfer but I'm sufficiently OK with what to do now I can arrange my own accommodation.
My questions are about luggage transfer...
I'm 78 and walked this year from SJPP to Leon - no problem at all. I'm not the fittest older person. My plan was to go all the way but I got vertigo in Leon so had to cut short my walk. I plan to go back next year and do the remainder.
So, over 70 is no problem.
Just been through there and now in Burgos. WiFi has been difficult so maybe she hasn't been able to get on. Hope that is the reason. Keep us posted please.
I've just come through there and thought the problem was before Estella. Whatever it has been hard slog up until yesterday, at Los Arcos when things improved.
Left Pamplona Monday morning and it has been rain, some sleet, icy winds and enough mud to make a cow yard look normal. Now in Estella and it looks like staying this way for a few more days at least. Adds to the experience . I'm travelling alone it's become quite lonely as I don't seem to run...
BTW: The Pilgrim group in Sydney are advising Aussies that SNCF train service in France are having a series of two day strikes, starting in April and until June.
The April dates are: 3,4; 8,9; 13,14; 18,19; 23,24 and 28,29.
I suggest anyone planning train travel check with their website.
I'm walking to Orisson on April 4 and going back (taxi) to SJPP for the night then by taxi back to Orisson on the 5th to go the Napoleon route. If Napoleon is closed then via Valcarlos on the 5th.
I would like some wisdom from experienced pilgrims as to:
1. Should I always carry my passport and money on me whilst walking or leave it in my luggage which will be transported to the next place.
2. Are a pair of waterproof trousers essential for the Camino Frances? I'm walking in April.
Any...
For Australians I've decided next time I will go with Covermore. I can get insurance on my card but recent experiences from others has put me off them. A number of companies won't insure me because I'm over 70 but they will. I had a friend visiting UK who suffered a severe stroke, was...
Toe separating socks - the notion is new to me. Where is Sydney would I be able to buy them and do they have a brand name? Thanks in advance.
I'm starting my Camino from SJPdP on April 4 so its possible we might meet up somewhere. Hope so.
