When I see the beggars wherever they may be around the world I am reminded of Mother Teresa of Calcutta who lived by the words of the "King" in Matthew's gospel 25:40:
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did...
Just a couple of my favourite quotes that hopefully might mean something to you right now:
From Iyanla Vanzant - "Where you are right now is exactly where you need to be. When you know more then you will move on."
And from of all people, Dr Phil Mc Graw who says -"Sometimes we make the right...
Many people arrive in SDC and fly out the next day. IMHO it is better to stay a few days in SDC to allow yourself to "come down" from the whole wonderful experience. This is a great help, but of course nothing will stop the yearning to go back and do it again. So as someone has said before me...
Couldn't agree more about Hotel Eslava. It is located almost right on top of the old wall and very handy to everything. As for a good restaurant, there are many for your consideration. Just wander around the Old Town and you will be sure to find one. Happy anniversary to you both. Buen Camino.
I certainly would not like to try it as I have arrived in CDG many times and have travelled from CDG to Biarritz as well and I know what a circus it is going through check in and security for that flight. There can also be delays at baggage claim when you come in to CDG. As someone else has...
Is the book available in hardcover or paperback form? I would love to read it but do not have a kindle. I have looked it up on Amazon and it only seems to be in e-book form from what I can see.
Ditto to all of the above, you will have a hard time finding better. Just about my favourite of all the French Hotels where I have stayed. Go for it.
Buen Camino
As someone mentioned above, there are churches along the camino and I guess all over the world that look very ordinary from the outside but take your breath away when you walk through the door. One that really springs to mind with me is the Church of San Saturnino on Calle San Saturnino in...
I need to get from SDC to O Porto on Sunday July 17. I'm not having much success online for various reasons. Can anyone tell me what is the best way of getting there or at least steer me to an easier site. I have tried Alsa and Renfe and Alsa tells me they don't go to Porto and Renfe tells me...
SJPDP to Logrono would most probably need more than 4-5 days for many pilgrims. But if you are really strong walkers and are prepared to do long days you might make it. What do others think?
When my son walked the CF last year I stayed for five days each in Pamplona, Logrono, Burgos, Sahagun, Astorga, Ponferrada and of course in Santiago. I chose not tostay in Sarria but stayed in Lugo instead even though my son was not going to be coming to Lugo. It was just a place I wanted to...
These words were spoken by Jesus at the Last Supper. His speech finished with the words "Do this in memory of me" what he did not say was "but only if you are a baptised Catholic in good standing with the church....etc". It was a gift offered to all, but sadly the Catholic Church has put...
All these different figures make me wonder about the correctness of the famous "Santiago de Compostela 790kms" sign as you leave Ronscevalles. All too complicated for me I'm afraid and I certainly don't understand why the Pilgrim's Office in SJPDP would be quoting 775kms to SDC if in fact the...
If you want one last night of comfort before you start your camino, I can recommend the Hotel Los Templarios. It is quite a humble little place but it is clean and comfortable and the room rate won't break the bank (35 Euro last May). The location is extremely central and right on the way out...
If you want to have one last night of real comfort before you hit the road to SDC, I can highly recommend the Hotel Ramuntcho. It is only about 30 meters from the Pilgrim Office and right in the middle of the old town.
You're about to find out that the Camino is way better when you're there than you can ever have possibly imagined. Go with the flow, roll with the punches and know that you have a very large group cheering you on. Ultreia Mike, Buen Camino!
