I took that bus and really regret it now – it's the only stretch of the Frances I did not walk and part of me feels like I need to go back and walk that section to truly complete it! If I ever holiday in the area I'll get my other half to drop me off in Mansilla and I will walk that part to...
You could take a trip out to the bodega of Marquis de Riscal - the architecture is beautiful, designed by the same architect as the Guggenheim in Bilbao and the wine tour is fantastic- plus you get tasters at the end.
I stayed at Winederful – it was very nice as I recall, but my sleep was disturbed at 4am by a particularly selfish pilgrim who decided she would get up, clatter about in the adjoining bathroom turning on lights, and getting all her bags packed ready for her noisy 5am departure. No bother from...
That’s a shame, it did feel a little neglected when I went and had a strange atmosphere. The owner wasn’t too friendly and we all were expecting a lousy dinner so we were all really grateful to be treated to the amazing feast put before us that night.
The Finca Albergue! Strange place and I nearly walked away, but wow we had such a fantastic meal there, the best one of my camino. Big bowl of fresh salad, garlicky lentil soup, a tray of crispy fried eggs in olive oil, paprika ham slices, chips, bread, dessert and lovely red wine. It was amazing…
Thanks for clarifying, even though it’s not the answer I was hoping for. Hoping despite the stress of accommodation that it will still be a good camino experience.
Coming out on the Burgos river route not really knowing where I was going I had a local lady run up to me, stop me in my tracks, turn me around and push me in the correct direction. We had a good laugh and a hug, a “Buen camino!” and was on my way.
I was super-impressed with the Ronscevalles albergue, I wouldn’t miss it personally. Walking up and over the Pyrenees and then arriving here was just amazing. And the beds were excellent, very nicely spaced as you say. But chilly and no blankets - even in August! I will always have lasting...
Well if it was me I would start at St Jean Pied de Port and walk as far as your timeframe allowed… Because you WILL want to return and complete it from where you left off. 🙂
Thank you for enquiring via their FB page. Interesting they won’t send out a PDF, but then their website is very dated and maybe modern technology not high on their priorities. Annoyingly I left all my sheets on a table at a bar somewhere along the way and hadn’t saved photos of each page on my...
Does anyone know where I can get hold of the sheets of paper they hand out in the Pilgrims Office in SJPDP which list all the albergues with their contact details? Im heading back to Burgos soon to finish the Frances and not sure where to get the updated list for this year. Do they send out PDF...
I stayed in Ronscevalles this time 2019 and was surprised how cold it was at night. In fact many mornings of my August camino started off walking in the cold temperatures and socks were utilised as gloves! I had googled the albergue at Ronscevalles before I left and was expecting the giant bed...
Sounds wonderful! Thank you for the updates, can I ask are hostels providing blankets this year with the you-know-what restrictions? Debating on bringing a sleeping bag this time. Thank you
