Tips for securing a bed at Albergue de La Faba during the busy September season on Camino Frances

I stayed there in September 2015 with some friends. One of my special memories. The old church beside the albergue is simple and beautiful. Our hostess was wonderful, quiet and really interesting to speak to. It was nice to stay there before continuing on up to O'Cebriero the following morning...

    Ruins of San Antón

This is a period of over 870 years, almost a millennium. I think it should be understood that there may have been many versions of buildings on the San Anton site over that period. For a simple instance, the Cathedral in Santiago de Compostela in not the original building constructed on the site...

How many days are needed for the Camino Frances ?

Yes. Dancing with a Cuban will do it every time! The brain and 'mature' body are not always in sync. BTW 32 days for me, in answer to the original question. Give yourself 40 plus days as advised earlier and remember it is NOT a race. I thoroughly enjoyed the extra days at the end. Brierley's...

    Disposable Wipes

There is no 'maintenance crew' but us pilgrims. Apart from the many wonderful volunteers who paint the yellow arrows etc. And I hope that it remains that way. This is an issue that has been raised before and no doubt will be raised again in the future. Meantime be prepared to be amazed and...

    Disposable Wipes

Most wet wipes are NOT biodegradable and can take 100 years or longer for them to disappear. They are not flushable and can also clog up sewage pumps and boat propellers. Not to mention littering our beaches and pollution of seawater and marine life. People need to get themselves informed. I...

Albergue “El Refugio” in La Faba totally destroyed by fire

Very little point in speculating. In the end it's a real tragedy for La Faba community /village primarily and also pilgrims. From the photos of the damage it looks like it will be quite some time before redevelopment. Local regulations will deal with other matters I suppose

Albergue “El Refugio” in La Faba totally destroyed by fire

Heartbreaking. La Fabe is such a beautiful village and pilgrim traffic is so important to their economy. Hopefully they can recover from this tragedy. Thank God people are safe and nobody injured. I enjoyed my stay in La Fabe 2015. Fond memories...

Same Camino over and over again

Good question. I did CF just once. Intention was to do one Camino. 4 Caminos later I am beginning to feel a draw back to CF. This is totally unexpected for me. Not sure if this is due to the pandemic or some of the wonderful recent posts on Facebook looking back on the Frances. One thing I'm...

Update and farewell to Albergue Villares de Orbigo

I don't have the words to express the sadness I feel. Like so many on the forum it was inspiring to follow your journey. Following the anticipation of opening and then having to close are a couple of days. Phew! Gut wrenching. Then opening up again, few pilgrims and another wave of covid...

    Disparaging "The Way"

I can't comment or critique as I did not watch the movie from beginning to end. I did however intentionally avoid the movie before I first walked in 2015. I did not want to be influenced by this, or by Paulo Coelho or Shirley McLean before I set off walking. I waited a lot of years and wanted...
