I started August 8 2021....some days were hot but you are done walking for the worst of it. We had no rain until the last 2 days....which I loved! I'm going again this year leaving SJPP on August 13.....maybe I'll run into you!!!
The last 3 may be your only real problem! Trust me I had all the same fears and the result....the best experience of my life (and I was 71 when I walked the whole way!
Go the mountain route...it's magical! I did it at 71....has a reservation at Orisson but chose to keep going. Next time I will stop there just to make it a bit easier on these old bones. There are no hotels on the mountain, but if you don't stay is some hostels you really are missing part of...
Did it in one go in 2021 at 71....BEST thing I have ever done in my life!! Since then I have done the Portuguese from Porto and the via Francegina (Lucca to Vatican). GO FOR IT!
I just finished in early September. I had planned to stop at Orisson but left at 7 and was there by 9:30....so I decided to keep going. I am 72 also, and had no trouble making it (not that it was easy). In retrospect, I would leave St Jean a bit later and stop if I were to go again.
