Reasons to repeat the Frances .... 1. I know now what I didn't know then. 2. As a solo traveller I would feel more comfortable going "off the beaten path" so to speak. (First time I sorta, kinda, followed a guide). 3. My expectations are different the second time around and by different I...
I washed my clothes when convenient esp. when there was a washing machine. Having said that, I would rather smell body odor than stale cigarette smoke and trust me, people coming in from their last cigarette and beer and going straight to their bed smelled far worse, to me, than any body odor.
I came home calling the Spanish beer a restorative/tincture/medicinal need .... I always felt much better after a Spanish beer but rarely do I indulge in a daily beer here at home and never does it seem as restorative to my soul
A bar in Spain is where you will engage with some of the most amazing people. It is where you will have some hearty laughs that bring tears to your eyes and where you will have some deep conversations that bring you to tears. A bar in Spain is where you will find out more about yourself than...
I spent a lot of energy on being nervous .... and it was all for naught! I think sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the "gotta book a bed" idea but I don't think it is necessary.
I walked the Camino in Sept/Oct of 2015 and plan on returning to do it again in 2017. I learned a lot the first time, will learn a lot the second. I plan on bypassing Paris this next time and fly to Madrid instead. I will spend several days there at the end. I have things I will definitely...
Funny that Camino thing. I did SJPP to Santiago last fall ... not doing it again, nope, not what I thought it would be, not into the communal thing, the rain was too much .... but the beer and wine is pretty good, and I didn't spend as much time in Leon as I wanted and there was that one...
One year on from my Camino my answer is probably quite different than it had been. Why would I sleep in an Albergue when in Ponferrada an older German fellow told me I snored, I ruined his night, I was fat and I should be getting a hotel room?? Why would I sleep in an Albergue when in Puente...
I finished the Camino last year in Oct. thinking I was done with it. Now, I find myself saying maybe, possibly ... probably. I think I would go into that much more knowledgeable, I would do some things the same, some things different. I would worry about different things and I would look at...
I can't say I ever had a great sleep in the alberques but it wasn't so bad. I did use ear plugs, the wax ones, and I did take a night off here and there and stay in hostels or hotels, in a private room. I must also admit that on occasion I was the snorer. One german fellow really admonished...
My only criticism of Orrison was the god awful sewage smell that wafted into the rooms. It was really hot so between the heat, the lack of air movement and the smell I cannot say I enjoyed Orrison. It was also where my Keens were stolen from the shoe rack so that didn't help, 3 days into my...
A face cloth ... I love my face cloth. I lost it along the way when it was clipped to my bag to dry and no shower was ever the same following. I really really missed my face cloth.
The one thing I did notice on the last 100 km is that people stopped talking to each other as we passed. No buen camino, no hola. Now this may have been because the day I started from Sarria the torrential rains started and lasted for 3 days and any words would have been lost in the sounds of...
I walked into Santiago on Oct. 8 and have to say I loved the last 100km. It came close to being my favourite walking time. I didn't encounter hoards of unruly pilgrims at all ! There was one group of young people walking and playing music, they had an older german gentleman walking with them...
No, not upset in the least. Annoyed, yes. It's not just this post, its many. When some one has a legitimate question and the answers of "just let the Camino lead" come flooding in ... its not helpful.
I got a similar response when I asked a similar question. I get aggravated with it. We are not always looking to preplan a "set of targets" however if all I do is walk the exact trail then I will miss, yes miss, many great and wonderful opportunities that others that have gone before me are...
