LIVE from the Camino Feels Unpleasantly Busy on the Camino Frances (May Day, 2024)

Thanks all! I’ll be reading up on the Invierno the next few days.

LIVE from the Camino Feels Unpleasantly Busy on the Camino Frances (May Day, 2024)

I am doing some, and eventually will post everything good here. I have put some things on Instagram and facebook, if you do that. My pages are all public, feel free to friend or follow.

LIVE from the Camino Feels Unpleasantly Busy on the Camino Frances (May Day, 2024)

I’m on the Camino Frances since April 4. I just finished the Meseta and it feels unpleasantly busy and has since the beginning. No time time to smell the roses or draw much. There is a sense from most people that it’s extremely busy and you have to book. I’ve often had to contact several...

February Start: SJPP, Roncesvalles, or Pamplona?

I see you've gotten any good answers to your query, but I'll chime in. I think the only reason to start in SJPP is if you have it in your mind that that's the "correct" place to start. I ended up starting from Pamplona in early April 2022, because there was a snowstorm in the Pyrenees. There...

ALSA bus Pamplona to SJPDP - 2024 timetable announced and booking open

No, I haven't taken it yet. It came up when I was clicking around, searching for the quickest route to get all the way from the southwest of Spain to SJPP. But I think the bus originates in Madrid. And I plan to take it in early April. When I searched for the February 15 bus, I got this at the...

ALSA bus Pamplona to SJPDP - 2024 timetable announced and booking open

A Mainer also! Welcome! I was looking for routes from the south of Spain to SJPP and my searches led me to this which I posted elsewhere: As an alternate route to SJPP instead of going through Pamplona. This seems to be year-round. If you're starting your trip in Madrid, there seem to be...

    Hiking with a tent

Good point. I'm guilty of this and so I deleted my comment.

Booking Albergue Borda for 2024 now open

Just tried about 10 different dates for Borda in 2024. Nothing available. First, I tried in early April, but then I just started clicking on random dates throughout the year and there was never any availability. Oh well.....

CF in April with parents - logistics/gear

How interesting. And why was that? Is it because of the sandals got less mucked up with mud? Or….?

CF in April with parents - logistics/gear

I can answer some of it. I started from Pamplona April 6, 2022. It wasn’t that cold most days. Questions about the weather are so dependent on where people are from. It depends on what you’re used to. I live in the northern United States so I’m comfortable in 5-10C weather, which is what it...

    Meseta

Hontanas. The best meals I had on the Camino were cooked by the Italian woman who was co-manager at the Hostal Fuentestrella. I did a rest day there and stayed at an Albergue the first night and then treated myself to a private room the second night. She was such a good cook!

    Accomodation recommendations!

There is no English option for Gronze. But If you look at it in the Chrome or Safari browser, there are translation options. Chrome does it automatically... But really, the booking.com phone app or website will have almost all the lodging options listed with reviews. Or any of the Camino phone...

The dreaded plantar fasciitis - just as I’m about to start…

Did you have a night splint that you could carry in your backpack, or were you returning home? And I did finally get some new custom orthotics. They're much more robust (and expensive) than orthotics I've had previously. But it was the first time in a long time I could wear normal shoes...

Looking for recommendations for lodging only.

You’re likely to get better responses on this particular subject from the various Camino Facebook groups. I concur with everyone else here, though. I think it would make your experience worse by handing out the booking to someone else. Either download the booking.com app to your phone or just...

LIVE from the Camino Between Sarria and Portomarin

That's good to know. I wonder how early in the year you would have to go for it to be quieter. While the weather is still good?

    Stamps- missing a few days

The stamps are fun, although I forgot them frequently. I'm not sure what's hoping to be accomplished with the two-stamp-a-day rule on the last hundred kilometers, anyway. Given that it could be easily done by a taxi or bus riding pilgrim also. And what would be the point? To lie to yourself...

The dreaded plantar fasciitis - just as I’m about to start…

Thanks for getting back to me. As you said, I think the most important thing is the skill of the orthotic maker. As we speak, I'm waiting for a new set. I've tried several of them, and this person certainly seemed like the most knowledgeable. Fingers crossed. And I also size up my shoes about a...

I need help retrieving a package in St Jean Pied De Port

Maybe you tried this already, but if you just emailed them, did you try calling them? Maybe someone speaks English? Or you know someone who speaks French? The numbers are on the website: Just a suggestion, but sometimes things happen quicker that way. https://www.villaesponda.com/

The dreaded plantar fasciitis - just as I’m about to start…

By the way, what did they do special with the custom orthotics that were aimed at the plantar fasciitis? I should've asked last time, I'm actually getting some new orthotics tomorrow. Hopefully, the orthotist will know!

The dreaded plantar fasciitis - just as I’m about to start…

As soon as I started wearing a night splint, it finally started improving. I also got a massage-gun recently, which also seems to be helping. I've had PF for nine months now. @Simperegrino , I wish you well and a buen camino, but you might consider doing some 20 km test hikes to see how...
