Thank you SO much for your post, Jo Weber. I am leaving in 10 days and I am definitely in the "I'm sure I'm not bringing the right things, etc." phase (relieved that there is an official "Overanalysis" stage of Camino anticipation) and am trying to restrain myself from making those last minute...
Hi Ed,
I will also be starting my first Camino on the 18th of May. I am staying at Orrison. Perhaps, we'll see one another on the journey.
Guess it's important to remember that while we all have so much in common as humans, we are very different in our preferences, paces, and pain levels...
I certainly won't have room in my 38L pack for a guitar, or matter how small or light. However, in my experience with travel in the past, I was never far from a guitar. :)
I think I will start in ST JDPP because hiking thru the Pyrenees has long been a dream of mine. When I get to Pamplona, I can decided whether to continue or bus it up to San Sebastian.
I am overwhelmed by the crowds and focus on finding "families," etc. I love people, my solo hiking and am...
Thanks for asking these questions. I will be walking my first Camino in Mid May and have had the radical idea of switching to the Northern route.
This time of year I would expect it to be less crowded, but surely enough people not to feel isolated.
Weather differences between the two routes...
I have enjoyed reading your comments. I will start off in SJDPP on May 18 and still deciding whether a silk liner will be enough. I am still using five blankets and it's mid-April! (I do live in Massachusetts, though :))
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Oh, Rachel. Thanks for the encouraging words! My gut says to "just go," and it's one of my Camino intentions to balance out the external and internal realms. This will give me lots of practice :)
Good thought! I spent 6 weeks in Bilbao in 1979, AFS summer exchange student, and left dreaming in Spanish!
Haven 't been back since and have spent most of my time speaking Spanish de las Americas (although Caribbean Spanish is also distinct).
I remember some colloquialisms and have a new...
Sorry to post this again, but I decided to start a new thread....
I saw on a thread that 240 people began Caminos last Tuesday! Yikes!
I am planning to walk el Camino Frances in mid May. A friend told me that when he walked it in April several years ago in 2011, it was very crowded and packed...
I am planning to walk el Camino Frances in mid May. A friend told me that when he walked it in April several years ago in 2011, it was very crowded and packed at night at the Albergues, and many of the hosts were "up to here" with peregrinos....he was trying to get me to walk the Via de la Plata...
Buenos dias,
I am staying the night in Pamplona before heading to St. Jean to start el Camino. Any thoughts about a quiet place to stay with dinner and breakfast included? I will be jet lagged and hope for a good sleep before I embrace communal living! :)
Started training and it feels great...
How exciting. Congrats!
It is good to hear that some of you will start before and right after me! I plan to hike up to Orrison on Thursday, May 18...hope to meet you along the way.
I am the one who plays the flute!
Bueno Camino a todos!
Sue
Hola Kristen,
I will have my credenciales when I arrive, so I could stay in an albergue. I am interested in more details about your B&B in San Sebastian. Please contact me via conversation on this forum (click on my avatar and start a conversation). If it isn't too expensive, I would definitely...
Hello Caminitos,
I have a list of albergues in St. Jean. Any recommendations for a inexpensive, smaller one?
Also, I have applied to my certification papers so when I arrive in San Sebastian I can stay at an albergue as well and meet some other peregrinos. Any suggestions for a place there...
