Sometimes I had to try a few ATMs in one town to find one that worked for me. The app, MapsMe, helped me find them. Download the city map while you’re in WiFi BEFORE you need it.
Not my experience at 6 pm last September. We were turned away in the rain and found an excellent Casa Rural with private rooms and great food only 2 km away. Wish I remembered the name, but there were several to choose from.
I found a water bottle tube on Amazon called the Camelbak Unisex Eddy Hands-Free Adapter. Not the hydration pack that goes inside your pack, but a tube that attaches to a one-liter Camelbak water bottle. You can easily fill your bottle at fountains that way, and be sipping the tube while you're...
I'll just add that I'd recommend, with painful hindsight, to check out the recent post on Preventing Plantar Fasciitis. What hubris I had to not listen to the experience of veteran Camino walkers to stretch everything, every day...even your feet.
Thank you so much. Very helpful tips. I didn't have any foot or blister problems on the CF this year, but very suddenly have developed PF in the last couple of weeks. I can only guess that I overworked my calves and hamstrings; I have been having some night cramps in my legs recently...
If you book Iberia Air far in advance, you can often get an unbelievably cheap airfare to Biarritz BIQ. From there, there are busses and taxis, including Express Bourricot (for about $18 US in Fall 2017).
And I so regret not going to Barcelona!
Beillari was my favorite albergue on the whole CF, specifically because of the sweet connecting time at dinner. So, I would find another place if you can, someplace that offers dinner Easter night. It's a great time to bond with others that you may be hiking with or seeing on and off all the...
Yes, exactly. I only allowed myself 35 days and always felt like I was rushing. I met some lovely people while walking, only to have to say goodbye when they stopped earlier than I could. Î thought I walked rather fast at 2.5 - 3 miles per hour with a pack but 15+ miles a day takes all day and...
I haven't done June but just finished that route Sept. 15-Oct. 18. Weather was exceptional! Only festivity was a wine festival in Logrono, and I walked right through town that day. I watched a lot of posts from people walking this summer and it looked incredibly hot. They did lots of walking...
Sitting in the comfort of my US home, I'm estimating the date I'll fly from Santiago to Madrid on Ryan Air and it's $23 US. I think I'll just buy it and hope I nail the date. Wondering if I can wait to book until I get close to Santiago, I noticed that flights closer to today's date...
Check out Ryan Air's website for very cheap flights. I spent hours (!) trying to get the cheapest/ best connections in September. I switched between Google Flights, Expedia's +/- 3 days option and SkyScanner. I'm going from the mid-US through NYC (I think it's LaGuardia), then Madrid. I'll...
Soaking your feet in black tea for 15 minutes every night for a week is an old trick marathoners use. I'd recommend decaf, as we can absorb caffeine through our skin.
