I also used the "neck pouch".....actually a wallet made of a nylon canvas-type fabric which hangs around one's neck inside your shirt (for security) or can be worn around the neck and over one shoulder (as you have described). That is where I kept my passport, ATM card and general cash. Around...
I was on the Camino Frances in September of 2013 and 2014 and didn't usually have a problem getting a bed in an albergue. As one person observed, at Zubiri some people had to sleep on a pad in a gym. We did, however, usually leave before daylight and stopped walking by mid-afternoon. In the...
I was in San Bol in mid-September this year and it was all in all a pleasant experience (good company, nice treatment, good paella, relaxing environment). We unfortunately got there at an hour when all the actual beds were taken so they gave us some "pads" upon which to sleep up in the loft...
I was on the Camino in 2013 and 2014 and never had a problem with theft of any kind but I also took major precautions. I had the small purse that is like the "passport pouch" earlier mentioned that had space for cash and an ATM card as well as the passport (readily available at REI or the AAA...
I was on the Camino Frances this past September and, at age 70, I was not the oldest person I encountered. There was a fellow from Denmark who was 80 and in 2013 I encountered an American who was in his '90's. If your health is good and you don't have any physical problems, age should not...
I have had the experience of "Montezuma's Revenge" in Mexico and that is a real nightmare. I have made perhaps 20 trips to Spain and have never gotten sick from either water or food....now Mexico is another story. Even the people who live there do NOT drink the tap water in Guadalajara or...
Starting out from Saint Jean Pied de Port is a tough first day but it is what it is, it is part of the exprerience and there is no alternative. I suggest staying at Orisson the first night since you will likely be pretty tired by then. The food is great, the hospitaleros are very pleasant and...
Very good advice; I do pretty much the same thing. One other idea that I haven't noticed anybody has mentioned about lodging...normally one can find a bed in an albergue but if you are in some small town and the albergues are full and there is no room in a hotel, go to the parish priest's...
You need to go to a different terminal to get the busses that go north, to the Camino. I think it is Terminal 4 but it would be best to ask someome. There you can buy your ticket.
"AMDG"...were you educated by the Jesuits? I remember seeing "AMDG" very often on things they wrote. I am sure you know what it means.

I once went to the Feria de San Fermin with my son, who wanted to run with the bulls. Being an older man, I wasn't up for that but went along and was in Pamplona but outside of the route where the bulls actually run. I had heard that it is just about impossible to find a room in Pamplona...
Margaret:
That has to have been truly memorable! The conditions you endured to get there also must have made it even more meaningful.
