Well, it's been awhile and much water under the bridge but Michael and jess finished the Camino in good order and are on to other things. I've returned home and Jess has continued her travels. We finished the Camino 35 days after taking the first step and can say that we really loved the trip...
Just few minutes left on the internet. All is well on the Camino. the Albergues are fine, the weather is clearing and the wet spaces will clear up soon. We enjoyed the walk today. a Guidebook said that there were few places to eat along this walk but we found otherwise. great places spaced just...
Reporting from Ponferada. All is well on the Camino. Jess and I walked into the town today and things are good for us and a lively camino community. We wave to others accross the square, we sit and drink, vino tinto and laugh at the challenge we have faced. we see those left behind earlier.
the...
Jess and I are in Mazarife tonight and I want to report that is albergue, de jesus orujo, is much improved over 7 years ago. many beds in small rooms, a good kitchen, internet and happy hospitalors. What more could a pilgrim want?
It is cold tomight and tomorrow promises to be a cold, wet and...
We heard that someone had collasped on the road a few days ago, but no news if he recovered. There are so many ways things can go wrong... praying for this pilgrim and those who knew him.
blessings, Michael
Jess and I are in Sahagun today and all is good. The weather is good, cool in the morning and hot by noon. It is good to get to your destination by 12:30 or take a break unitl later. The alberge Cluny here has not been filling up the past several days so perhaps the upswing for a week was just...
stayed in Granon and it was very good even if a bit full, some 45, 50 fifty persons. All was well and we did enjoy the bell tower, the good conversation, the community meal, life is good. The Camino provides what you need. Buen Camino.
Jess and I have made it to Najara and all is well. The refugio is full and had to turn people away. two groups of very young people are with us tonight. it should be interesting as all 100 of us will be in one room!
the camino is full of many people from Spain and from Germany as well as all of...
what one last minute sage piece of advice or wisdom would you share with a pilgrim just leaving for Camino? Imagine that your good friend is beginning the walk the next day and you are sitting around with a good glass of whatever toasting your friend and sending him/her off with your best wishes...
knowing me I will only discover that it is May 1st halfway through the day! I tend to lose track of time when traveling and would not at all be surprised to discover that the reason I am having trouble finding things open is that it is a major holiday. Last time I was in Pamplonia for three days...
When I walked the camino in 2001 with my brother-in-law we decided to stay in a hotel one night. I wanted a good shower! Gary could not have cared less where we stayed, he saw no difference between any of the places we stayed. great alberge or poor he could not see any difference. He did like...
"O'Cebrerio very touristy", that is true but If I remember right, there is a hotel on top with a nice restaurant and bar. I remember sitting outside the restaurant in the warm sun and having a gin and tonic with a great view and good friendly conversation, very joy filled. The refugio wasn't my...
good question and I will be interested in the answers as well. In 2001 We got into Pamplonia around the first of May and nothing was open! I really wanted to go to a fountain pen store which was closed all the time we were there! I hope the store is still there... near the hotel Pearl I think...
I just used the link at the top of the El Camino Frances page to take a look at the camino guide by John Brierley. the link says the guide is sold out. Is it possible to get this guide in Spain along the camino or are there other sites I should be looking at? Perhaps the confraternity's site...
I do remember mud and rain! this year it will be with a lighter pack! I took my pack to a veterinarian and weighted it on the dog scale. yesterday it was 16.4 pounds, (7.4K) today I repacked and its 15.4! going in the right direction. thanks to Margaret for some wonderful reflections.
