I had a mat of the oldfashioned and cheap (3 €) foam type, that I had cut to be 1000 mm x 400 mm (Almost haff of it was cut off). Big enough to sleep on if necessary. You don't need flea spray if you can keep it in a deep freezer for 72 hours (Three days + nights.) It's much better if you can avoid chemicals.
