Weather in March, Camino Frances, Leon-Santiago - your experience?

In 2017 i left Astorga in hot sunshine, needing sunscreen and mopping sweat with my buff - a few days later I woke in Laguna di Castillo (sp?) to six inches of snow. Those few km up to O Cebreiro were quite magical, as was the village under deep snow, but not long after that it became tiring and...

How Important Was It To You To Do "Full" CF ?

I walked in stages because I thought if I waited until I had the time to do it in one go, I’d not have the energy or health to do so. It was more important to me to get to the Camino and make a start rather than wait. From September 2015 to April 2017 I walked over 5 stages, from 5 days to 2...

Help .....I have no idea where to start!

Unlikely, it’s a long way to Portomarin But you can easily walk to Barbadelo and stay there, it’s a really nice albergue and there are private options in the village too. It means you can look round Sarria, get a stamp in one of the churches, before setting out through the woods and fields. I...

    Carrion de los Condes

Fromista to Carrion de los Condes is another stage where the river route is so much nicer than the trudge along the senda beside the main road. The turn off to it is in Poblacion de los Campos, and while it may be a couple of km further, it is a beautiful walk alongside the river.

    Bilbao to Estella

Hello - I will be doing this on 19th March! From Bilbao Airport take the shuttle bus to the city bus station (it's the last stop). 3 buses an hour, it takes about 30 minutes. Take a bus to Pamplona - you should be able to get the 13.00 bus. The company is Autobus La Union, you can book 6-8...

Is anyone doing the Camino without any specific purpose

I walked the Frances in stages over 2 years. I still don't know WHY I was compelled to do so. To keep returning until I 'finished' (haha, the Camino is never over!). I thought the reason would become glaringly clear and obvious. It didnt't. But I discovered I did enjoy (mostly) the walking...

Looking to do first 7 day walk

My first Camino I walked for 5 days and reached Puente la Reina. I flew in and out of Bilbao from Heathrow. It was really easy to get the airport shuttle bus from Bilbao airport to the bus station and then onwards to Pamplona (2 hrs) where I got a bus to Saint Jean PdP. And then from Puente la...

    London - Compostela

You could fly Vueling from Heathrow to A Coruna, then take the train to Sarria. It's barely a 2 hour train journey from/to either Santiago de Compostela/Sarria. I've done it both ways. Alternatively Easyjet fly to SdeC from Gatwick, and RyanAir from Stansted.

    Suggestion for 6 day walk

My first time, I only had 5 days, and intended to walk from Saint Jean PdP to Pamplona - but ended up walking on to Puente la Reina, where I had one of the best evenings. It was a short bus ride back to Pamplona the next morning. Don't limit yourself more than you have to! Otherwise you could...

    Leaving Triacastela: right or left?

I left via Samos. Totally worth doing. (And when I chose that path in March it was in snow and sleet, then the next day warm sun going to Sarria and on to Barbadelo)

    Astorga-rejoining route from uk

When I re-started my camino from Astorga I flew to Madrid (BA from Heathrow) and took the train (with a change at Leon). You can fly Madrid from Bristol but the flight times are not so often or convenient. And very often BA flights are cheaper than Easyjet! I also often fly home from A Coruna...

    Next stage advice-Logrono to ????

Where are you flying back to? That could well determine which airport you need easy access to. Living in the UK, I've found it easiest to use Bilbao up until Carrion de los Condes. After that it's been Madrid or Santiago de Compostela or A Coruna. I like to fly into Heathrow or Bristol if I...

    Transport from Bilbao to Logrono

There are also trains from Bilbao to Logrono. I've done this journey by train, though it was in the morning.

    The Meseta.

Loved Liberanos Dominee (SP?) a private albergue in Rabe de las Calzadas run by the wonderful Clementina. Clean, fabulous food, and the option of glorious vespers at the convent nearby. And then the next night Santa Brigida in Hontanas. Those were pretty much the best two albergues I stayed...

    Bag Transport Backwards?

I did this in September 2015 - from Albergue Jakue in Puente la Reina to a hotel in Pamplona. I'd only walked for 5 days, and though I was getting a bus to Pamplona my back and hips were so sore at the time I didn't feel like I could wear my pack. I recall I used Jacotrans, and I don't think I...

Food Question - Memories of the Rice Cooker debate!

It occurs to me that those vacuum packed sachets of boil-in-the-bag rice or even the microwave-in-2-minutes rice could be an option for you to carry a few, hidden deep in your pack, for those days when the rice-for-breakfast craving really needs satisfying. And perhaps some soy sauce in those...

O Cebreiro - Sarria + End March question

I too was short of time when walking this part of the Camino in March last year; I started in Astorga but as my daily limit is about 20km I had to skip a few km here and there. So, after a fall on the way down to Molinaseca which shook me up a fair bit, I took a taxi to Ponferrada. I skipped...

    One week camino from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

From Pamplona or Logrono it's two hours on a bus to Bilbao. The train from Logrono takes 2 hours as well. The aerobus runs 3 times an hour and is easy. The first two times I walked (for only 5 days each time) I returned to the UK via Bilbao, travelling from each of the above cities. I didn't...

    Bilbao?

<<Bilbao is beautiful but by bus, it is quite a few hours from Pamplona/Logrono/Burgos>> Not much more than 2 hours from any of these cities. I've taken the bus to or from all. The train takes longer.
