Hi. My wife and I who are in our 60s did exactly this a couple of years ago. No problems at all. If you like, pm and I will share itinerary with all the hotels contacts etc. Bag transfer by Coreos. The only thing you should have a reasonably good idea of is your comfortable walking range per...
All good suggestions. My 2 cents: Leave some time for Santiago itself. A few relaxed days, pilgrims mass, the park, wandering through the streets (maybe a walking tour?). Burgos and Leon for sure. If you like architecture, the Gaudí house in Leon, not just the edifice but the detail. Estella...
Another vote for the Primitivo. About the right distance (assuming you can walk 25k a day), it’s a “full” Camino, and nice variety of towns and country en route. Hilly yes, but nothing terrible.
OP said he was going to walk in May, so probably done and dusted by now. But for those reading who are thinking of by passing Alto de P, based on what you have read here, please don’t. It’s one of the highlights, and you feel great having got there. Just manage the descent according to your...
It is very nice, and they have a great art collection. But be aware that they renovated/ modernised a few years ago so you won’t get the same type of room that they had when The Way was filmed.
Btw, on the other side of the river a few hundred yards away there is a great restaurant called...
I think that if it’s genuinely a day where you want to rest, relax and do nothing then those mid sized towns mentioned are all good. For us though, part of the reason for the rest day was to actually see some of the places we were walking through rather then arriving evening, leaving morning and...
Generally I am always surprised how welcoming and kind service providers are on the Camino, given it is more than likely that they might never see you again. I can count the bad experiences over 3 Caminos on one hand, in comparison to the many restaurants and hotels that greeted us, were so...
I agree with most here. Going up is not a problem. Coming down is like Zubiri on steroids. That horrid cracked rocky surface. I would not like to do it in the wet for sure.
One option could be to walk the last part of the Primitivo from Lugo? You will join the CF at Melide. Lugo is much nicer than Sarria and worth visiting if you haven’t already.
From what I remember Gaudí started design of the palace but after falling out with the council never finished it. Apparently he hated Astorga so much that he said he would prefer to fly over it by balloon rather than enter it😀
We had lunch at Restaurante Serrano, which was very good.
We are in our 60’s and not particularly nimble, and it wasn’t very enjoyable. That being said, just take your time, go slow and it will be Ok. The problem is the eroded trail, and there are a few other sections along the Camino like that. My feeling is that if we had taken the road it would...
Found glasses in ray ban case near map table on the way to Orisson. Look like reading glasses not sunglasses. Ping me here to arrange where to leave them. Right now in Roncesvalles, leaving for Zubiri tomorrow.
Perhaps it’s just him telling you that he loves you and wants to be with you? Walk the last 100 from Sarria. Easy walking, lots of places to stop and cherish the time together. What more could one ask for?
By the way, although albergues do use booking.com, and it is a very handy way to book, none of them give all their rooms to booking.com. It’s always worth calling out writing to the albergue directly to check if they have space.
I second the advice on direct contact to those establishments who are full on booking.com. Last year on the Primitivo I chatted with a hotel owner who told me that they only allocate a few rooms to Booking, and leave the others for direct booking. This year on Frances we had to direct contact a...
