LIVE from the Camino Janet and Phil on the CF 2023

Hi Janet and Phil, I love reading about you. (that’s the plural you or should I say yuz) and your experiences. You make the worst situation sound like an adventure! I wish I could get back on the Camino and be a Hospitalera again. Especially now that a call has gone out. I will start saving my...

Help from those experienced with a donkey

About 12 years ago on a whim I acquired a donkey in Carrión de los Condes. I’m walking the Camino now and was just thinking how difficult it would be today to walk with a donkey. There is so much more traffic and somehow the Camino seems less rural. I think the logistics would be very...

    Heat wave - anxious

I am saddened to be referred to as a frightened person or as someone who gets the news from “click/bait”. Ivan himself posted the fire danger on the Camino and there are many posts about the extreme heat. Although the people fleeing the fires are surely frightened and the families of those who...

Way too overwhelming to book beds/rooms (mid july - mid August, frances)

I think many of us had the same feelings of excitement and fear before starting a Camino for the first time. I did. As you probably know from your research, the municipal albrgues can’t be reserved. Unless there’s a bed race going on and you feel comfortable doing so, you can consider some...

How to find a meal on a busy Sunday in Viana - are we doing it wrong?

I hope you have resolved this by now. Can you google map restaurants/bars and go to one not centrally located? Perhaps some one can make calls for you if you dot have enough Spanish. Bars are probably a better bet for the tapas

    (Not) too old Konnie responds

Thanks to all who gave me encouragement and advice about doing another Camino! I'v taken it all to heart and am planning for the Via Francigna to Roma . Hoping to go in October. I may skip some parts by jumping on a train or a bus because I want to walk for 3 weeks. Probably starting in Pavia...

    Too old?

I walked my last Camino in 2013. I carried a minimalist pack, less than 4 kilos. Now like many pillgrams, I long to return. I'm 74 years old, in pretty good shape, but wonder if it's just a day dream. I speak reasonable Spanish, and can mime my way with Italian and Portuguese. Looking at...

Did anyone regret walking the Camino?

I had some frustrating days on my last Camino (CF). Seemed to be a lot of competition for beds. Some were taking the bus and so arrived first in line. Others sent their bags ahead, so they could walk faster (not a bad idea to spare your knees, feet, etc, but a lighter pack is a better option in...

Starting Camino Frances June 15. Some quick questions!

Hi Tollymore, where you start is up to you but it would be fun to say that you hiked over the Pyreness! You could spend the first night in Orisson where you can make a reservation. I recommend that you use tracking poles. Also when you need to, you can send your pack on to the next...

Starting Camino Frances June 15. Some quick questions!

I hike at home in Tevas and used them all the way from Le Puy on the Camino. I had water proof socks for the really wet days, wool socks for cold days and no socks at all for warm days. And never a blister.
