"The Camino Provides", sounds so cliché; However I and everyone I spoke with who made the journey, will attest, that the Camino does provide. Great story, inspirational, God Bless and Buen Camino!
That first day was the hardest for me. The climb to Orisson was tough, but on to Roncesvalles was even tougher. I agree with the others, the downhill hike destroyed my legs, I also ran out of water the It last 5 miles, and I was really hurting. Hindsight being what it is, If I had to do this...
I would disagree with a few people on this thread. I do agree you can start your Camino adventure anywhere. However, Starting SJPP is a great start. Its a small town. If you have the time, come a day early and stroll about the streets. Some of the homes were built during Roman times! Also there...
I know everybody's experience and granted blisters take the fun out of everything. You are correct about half the walkers were Spanish. But I met Asian (not sure Japanese or Chinese) who could not speak a lick of English. They were my Angels one morning when I got up, it was still completely...
I feel your pain.....LOL, anyway, your short quote brought up a few memories. I long to walk the camino, again. Thinking about it, I remembered some of those hills seemed endless. Buen Camino!
Im no Camino expert, but the Camino has been around for over 1000 years. The Camino, like us, will survive. The Camino, like us will change. I pray, that sometime in the near future, we can put this all behind us and start fresh. Buen Camino!
I can tell you one thing, I practiced a light yoga session at the end of the day or first thing in the morning on a few days walking the camino. I believe it will remove your stiffness and soreness and you will be able to face the daily challenge a little bit easier. I did not have the...
You can start your camino walk anywhere. Look at all those that do only the last 100 km in Sarria. What about those that leave their front door in Sweden, Italy or some other country. I do think SJPP has become more popular due to the movie "The Way" and the many of the guidebooks have noted it...
Many people start at SJPP, and many do not. Those that do, probably do because of the movie THE WAY, or because many of the guidebooks start there. But it begs the question, why not? For those that like a challenge, iris certainly a long difficult trek. It is also very beautiful walking through...
Your body is telling you its time for a rest. If you push it, you may end up punishing your body further andmay not complete your journey. I skipped the meseta, took a few days off in Leon, and a few more in Santiago. Glad I did, i got to see and do so much more, especially in Santiago. Buen...
I remember that part of the camino. Buses of School kids, loud radios, running back and forth, garbage cans full, every quarter mile. The night prior to entering Santiago, I stayed at an alburgue, that had over 90 kids on the upper floor. They were respectful and relatively quiet. I knew this...
Im a word, YES...and not for the faint hearted. Here is my take, no matter how hard you work out, (and I can recommend you cannot work out hard enough) that first day, is very difficult. Best of luck!
I know you must feel really sad, however it sounds like you pushed your self to hard. The lesson, always listen to your body. Sometimes we all need to slack off and take a rest day, or at the very least only walk a few kilometers. Anyway, look at what you did accomplish and remember the good...
sounds like your in great shape. I think you can never overtrain. I was doing similar without the weights. As you get closer to your event, I would back up a little, your legs will be fresher, and you wont be burnout. Best of luck
I read you post..and can feel the excitement and anticipation. That first day-last September, was the hardest for me. It was hot, and by the time I reached Reconsville, I had run out of water, dehydrated and totally spent of energy. But it was exciting, seeing everyone come and go, knowing I had...
