    Snow at Roncesvalles

May 1, 2018 it rained, snowed and hailed all the way from Orisson to almost Roncesvalles. I should add that the next day my second Camino family encountered sunshine and warmth. Shall we say the weather at the pass is pretty unpredictable?

Did you take many photos and videos?

I think it is a personal preference to have a bulky (and heavy) camera. As an amateur photographer and artist I was one of those 'crazy' people who took along a DSLR and I am glad I had it. I had a chest harness that the DSLR easily clipped on and off to allow me for hands free walk. It was...

When do most pilgrims feel like quitting the Camino de Santiago?

Amazingly, there were two times on CF I felt like quitting: 1. June 1: It had rained heavily on us as we left SJPP and it kept raining as we walked up to Orisson. By the time we stopped at Orisson for our break and change into dry clothes it had started snowing. From Orisson to the shelter it...

How much did you spend and what was the total cost of your Camino Frances, start to finish?

I don't drink either but through the meseta i indulged in daily cold Coke zero and ice cream. The cafe con leche and pastries were so much better than Star***** that I often had two breakfasts stops. My daily food budget went askew often. And i still managed to lose 15 pounds.

How much did you spend and what was the total cost of your Camino Frances, start to finish?

I started off with €2200 but used my credit card for stays at hotels, purchases of new socks, visits to pharmacies, gifts for neighbors from SdC while I was off. My overall cost for 39 days came to €3200 including gift (I came home with about €70 cash).

What to expect on the Meseta in May?

Yes, expect the unexpected in May. On May 13, 2018, when we left Burgos it was cloudy and very chilly. It even threatened to rain with a few big rain drops but it didn't rain. A couple hours later, it was sunny and got very hot all the way to Astorga. It got cooler and rained a few days going to...

The Most Epic SJPdP Pizza Experience!

I'd give it a try also. Have watched videos of the ones that started in Italy and now in US they are trying to crowdfund one.

If you had 45-49 days for the Camino Frances, how would you spend it?

I just took my family on a driving Camino, it was for them to see the places along CF that I had experienced in 2018. They loved it and now my 16 yo son is wanting to do his own Camino.

LIVE from the Camino Current conditions: Big wave on the Francés

That is good news for albergues. Last Tuesday as we checked in, the hospitaleros at Benedictine Santa María de Carbajal in Leon said their numbers have been down for the last couple of weeks

Way too overwhelming to book beds/rooms (mid july - mid August, frances)

I agree with @Maple Leaf Walker. Those sites charge about 20% from the albergues for our convenience. We just call and booked our next evening during dinner.

    Second Camino Route Opinions

For my second Camino, I was vacillating between walking Porto to Santiago or re-walking the Camino Frances. @JamesGeier, based on your experience and comment I will re-walk the Camino Frances. Thank you for the "confirmation." I unwittingly followed the days and stages in the guidebook to stay...

What is the one Albergue that you would say not to miss

Next time I am in Villafranca del Bierzo, I will make it a point to book my stay at Albergue Leo. We had a few drinks there after a typical Pilgrim dinner in town. We met Mercedes and Maria who took care of us until it was past lock down at our albergue. Albergue Leo has been Mercedes' family...
