Camino Frances in May or June - which would you prefer?

I started my Camino the last week in April and I could not have picked a better time. Still some cool mornings and all the wildflowers were all in bloom. You will be at least a month on the Camino, so one month from early June puts you into July for the last 1/3 of your pilgrimage. It might get...

    Carrion de los condes

One of the most spiritual and uplifting religious experiences of the whole Camino de Santiago Compostela was at Carrion de Los Condes! The singing sisters gave a small performance with audience participation (very emotional!), then the Pilgrims's Blessing, and finally the Pilgrim's Mass. Up to...

    Necessary Sundries

I had a couple of emergencies along The Camino and I found that a small pack of wetwipes comes in handy! I also noticed that wherever I ducked behind a bush to take care of business, someone else had already had the same idea as me!!! Another humbling experience!

    Necessary Sundries

Always have a portion of emergency toilet paper on hand. Ditch the Dove soap for some castile soap that you can use for washing body, hair, socks, and underwear! And some lip balm would help. A small square of MoleSkin and a small multipurpose Swiss Army knife would be useful.

If you had an extra day, what would you have done?

Time was no factor in my pilgrimage. So, I took several days in Pamplona, a day in Burgos and a day in Leon. We caught the medievaI festival in Hospital de Orbigo would have spent another day at the Festival and watched the knights joust. I could have but I did not stay for a third day. I am...

If you had an extra day in Bayonne, St. Jean, and Pamplona...

I would do just what I did: Tour the Cathedrals and churches. do some laundry. Enjoy a real sit-down meal. Sit at an outdoor cafe and enjoy some delicious Spanish coffee and sweets. Go have a coffee with Ernest Hemingway (at least with his bronze statue!). Get an ice cream cone just like Martin...

    St. Jean to Burgos

I am not sure there is any merit in speed-walking The Camino. Looking down at the trail all day and not stopping to take it all in makes no sense. I took a day off every week or so to recoup. But if time is a limit then pick a leg and enjoy it. You can always come back to finish up at a later date!

Hospital de Órbigo - Sunday 19 May 2019

I caught the festival just as it started. My partner and I decided to stay an extra night to watch and participate in the festivities. The food they prepared was pretty bland. No spices to add. You have to ask just for salt and pepper. But the Sangria was good! I was there in early June, 2018. I...

    Digital Brierley Guide?

Henry, I did the same thing. I tore out pages after I passed that point on The Camino. The guide book was pretty heavy at Zubiri, but it got lots lighter as I made progress along the Camino!!
