Very sad to hear this outcome, although hopefully he had some good experiences while on the trail and succumbed while doing something that could have been very meaningful to him. Yes, prayers for him are in order. My sincerest condolences to you and his family.
I used Tui Tran twice and their service was faultless! We each had a bag for transport this year. For 6 stages for the two bags, the cost was €72 + €10 for exchanging currency.
Other companies do it also. I used Camino Facil on the English route and found their services also to be very good...
Yeah, that would be nice-- I'll be with my sister, Lorraine. We'll be at Residential Avenida Hostal in Tomar-- hoping that bus or taxi transport to Fatima on the 13th isn't too problematic.
I will be stopping at Tomar, staying two nights (May 12 and 13th) because I was hoping to see Fatima. Found that inexpensive accommodations were not to be found for the weekend I planned because May 13th is an anniversary of Marian apparitions. I'm just explaining this to let others be aware...
I use AA and Iberia all the time. If you book through AA and changes occur, I would suggest calling AA to see what they can do. An example that happened about 4 to 5 years when my sister accompanied me during the first 3 weeks of my trip, before I started my camino hike. I booked the flights...
Just finished the Coastal Portuguese route and came into Santiago on May 20th, a Friday. Quite a few pilgrims in Galicia at that time, but not what I would call insanely busy. I'm a slow walker and many other were passing me by. I was glad that I had pre-booked all accommodations. Wait time...
Kinda know what you mean. I also did my first Camino along the Portuguese route and had a great time enjoying the solitude although I did meet up with people and that was wonderful. The first pilrgrim I met was a French woman walking in the opposite direction towards Fatima-- a wonderful...
Having walked from Sarria, Tui and Ourense, I would second the opinion to start in Ourense. Far fewer pilgrims, a nice terrain and time to listen to your inner selves. I stayed at Ourense, Cea, Castro-O Dozon, A Laxe (all albergues), a private inexpensive hotel at Bandeira (restaurant on...
I think there should be another path for cyclists. I will never do the Camino France again!!!!
Completely agree about there being other paths for cyclists. Too often they are in utter denial that pedestrians share “their” path! I have grandchildren whom I would love to take with me for a...
Lynne,
I did this in 2006. Used the train from Lisbon to Porto (It stops on the way between those points at least in Coimbra). It's fast and comfortable.

Buen camino!
Next spring, I was wanting to see some of the Portuguese coastal route, but will have limited time. I was thinking about starting in Vigo and walking until that route joins the interior at Redondela, at which point I would walk the interior route through Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis, Padron and...
I have tickets for a month's stay in Spain starting in Barcelona and ending in SDC following hiking the Portuguese route in from Tuy over 5 to 6 days. I will be touring Spain several cities from east to west, and wish to get myself from Leon to SDC (there is a late-arriving bus only, form what...
Hi, the bus station is marked on the map of Porto on the Let's Go-- Spain and Portugal book. I was using the 2006 book. It's about a 15 minute walk at most from downtown Porto. I got off, grabbed my rucksack and walking stick and simply walked over to the place where I had reservations...
