    Vigo to santiago

Hi. For what it’s worth, when I went in May, I had a fair bit of difficulty finding waymarka from Vigo for quire a while. Perhaps I missed one or two, and that threw me off course. Having Johnnie Walker’s guide with me set me straight. After the first 6 or 10k or so, it was pretty smooth...

Bus Transportation to Muxia and back & Where to Stay

Your plan to spend a few days in Muxía sounds great. I just finished my walk there, and time only allowed me to spend one night. Though not a lot seems to go on there, it was a great place for me to give some closure to my walk on the Portugues, and I would have happily spent more time there if...

    Planning Illusions

The Hi. I'll report back if I can, as the coastal merges with the central in Rednondela, which is about 20km from where I'll be resuming the walk in Vigo. As I understand it, though, the last 100km of all paths tends to be much more crowded, so what I experience might not be representative of...

    Planning Illusions

Hi. I'll be picking up from Vigo, Spain, which is on the coastal route. By June 6th, I'll be back home trying not to be envious of your presence on the Camino :)

    Planning Illusions

Hi, @Jakke Just a heads-up that you may have intended this note for a different post, so Michelle may not have seen your message.

    Thank you, Family Kiwi.

    Planning Illusions

This just in... My return to the Portuguese (picking up from where I left off last year) resumes in just over a week. I've been doing a lot of planning the last month or so (only some of it in my head), and I just remembered...only a fraction of what will happen can actually be planned for...

Camino Portuguese - Starting in 2 Weeks

For my part, I brought a sleeping bag liner, which I believe proved necessary at one of the albergues where I stayed. I also had a towel with me that I don't believe I ever needed (I stayed in albergues for four of the ten nights I was walking). If by toiletries you're referring to toilet...

Solo Young Woman, Camino Portugues in May

For what it’s worth, it seems to me the accounts of issues with dogs (and I have not come across many) that I’ve read about in the forum have happened somewhere between Lisbon and Porto, where there are fewer pilgrims for dogs (and their owners) to be accustomed to. When I walked from Porto to...

Hoping for a better understanding of Christian practice while on the Portugues

Hi, everyone. I just wanted to say thank you for all the generous and thoughtful responses. I'm not sure yet whose suggestions I'll be following, but they've all been helpful in moving my thinking along. Wishing you all a Buen Camino, whatever road you're walking. Lorne

Will I be all alone on the coastal/senda litoral route?

And I should be clear that it's typically my way to be kind to people on the street asking for money. I normally have some ready every day for that purpose. In this one case, though, he had a certain, aggressive manner that made me feel uncomfortable, and as I didn't have money available for...

Will I be all alone on the coastal/senda litoral route?

Hi. I've only walked one Camino (littoral route out of Porto, and then joined the coastal at Villa do Conde...got as far as Vigo), so don't have a frame of reference by which I could compare it to other routes. I absolutely loved the walk, and can't wait to resume it. I never felt truly...

Hoping for a better understanding of Christian practice while on the Portugues

In putting forward my questions below, I’m bearing in mind that one is expected to be delicate when posting in the forum about religious matters. I hope what I’m asking is in the right spirit. I’m going to be resuming my walk along the Portugues soon (yes!). I’m not a Christian, and so was...

Portuguese Camino:Vila do Conde to Rates

Hi. As others had correctly understood, I was in fact referring to Vila do Conde. Bom/Buen Camino.

Portuguese Camino:Vila do Conde to Rates

Not sure if this wîle help, but I actually ended up on the detour by accident. Saw some yellow arrows near the river that goes through the centre, and followed them thinking I was going on the coastal, but they were in fact for the detour to the central.

Camino Portugues - Change in Plans - Mistakes Made

GuyA - I love your attitude about this. I often found during my ten days of walking the Portugues last year that it was what “went wrong” that had the most to offer.

    Porto to Santiago

When I walked the coastal (as far as Vigo) last year, I had an interesting experience at Vila do Conde. My problem there was that in following the yellow arrows I saw, I actually started walking 4 km out of town on what I thought was the coastal route, but turned out to be the detour to the...

Lodging in Vigo & Pazo Pias

@Albertinho Thanks for noting this. I’d liked your advice to me so much I had cut-and-pasted it onto my phone, but had forgotten who my source was :)

Lodging in Vigo & Pazo Pias

Last year someone had the following recommendation for me: “Better to walk another 3 kms [past Redondela] to Cessantes were you can sleep at Refúxio de la Jérezana.” May put it to the test when I resume my walk from Vigo this year. I, too, really liked what I saw of Vigo my one evening there...
