If seeing as much of Portugal as possible is what you would like, why not take transit to Lisbon then walk to the pilgrim shrine that is Fatima and then take transit again to Porto and walk back to Santiago.
Hi Duane, have you considered walking to Fatima? From Santarem or Nazarre this is a 2 day walk or a single day from Tomar. All these towns are not too far from Lisbon.
Hi Scott, I once read that the town of Fatima is a more symbolic pilgrimage location for the Portguese opposed to Santiago and is located almost half way between Porto and Lisbon. No personal experience, just another suggestion.
I do have a minor regret of not exchanging contact info on at least one occasion. Nonetheless the memory is there and maybe that just adds to what was "the moment in time"?
