Which Lisbon Train Station is closest to The Cathedral?

Taxis in Lisbon don't cost very much at all if you do find yourself at the wrong station you'll be able to get to the cathedral for not much money at all I'm sure. Further up the hill from the cathedral is the Church of St James (it's close to the castle). The yellow arrows start from there.

    Starting in Tui

Or you could start across the river in Valenca - it's only an extra 4km but then you get the pleasure of an international Camino spanning 2 countries.

    Detour on the Portuguese route

Thanks for posting this Sil. This detour is being discussed here: http://caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/alternate-route-to-porri%C3%B1o-waymarkers.23564/ so I've reposted this article there, and will lock this thread to avoid a duplicate conversation.

    Alternate route to Porriño; waymarkers

http://www.lavozdegalicia.es/notici...rinos-eluden-fabricas/0003_201401V16C9991.htm Google: The new layout in O Porrino now allows pilgrims to evade Gándaras an industrial estate. The historical path Orbenlle O Porrino had been occupied by the largest industrial estate in Galicia and the...

    Alternate route to Porriño; waymarkers

Welcome to the forum. I walked north from Tui in September 2010 and on the whole found it well signposted. I think I had trouble on the entry to Pontevedra but knew I needed to head for the city centre so followed road signs for that instead of relying on the yellow arrows. I also bizarrely...

Camino Portugues in reverse - Santiago de Compostela to Lisbon

If I remember rightly from when I walked the Portugues, each yellow arrow pointing north was accompanied by a blue arrow pointing south to Fatima. It might be worth researching this route.

    Green alternative to industrial Porrino..

Gah! Where was this when I needed it? But still, the 90 minute slog down the long straight road past the car storage was character building. Awful, but character building.

    Detailed Map Tui to Santiago

I found it well marked on the whole, the only place I had trouble was entering Pontevedra. If you have trouble here it might help to look for signs for the RENFE station as the albergue and Camino are next to that. In 2010 there were a few diversions in place, but they were well indicated.

    CALDAS DE REIS HOSTAL

I'd second recommending the Hotel Davila. A stay there with a spa treatment or two will make you feel 20 years younger. Not least because you're almost guaranteed to be by far the youngest person staying there (whatever your age).

    ARRIVING VIGO OCTOBER 18, 2011

I took the Vigo - Valenca train last year; I think the fare was less than three euros which I was very pleased with. I was going to start my Camino in Tui but decided last minute to go onto Valenca just to be able to say that I'd walked from Portugal. Also I'd recommend an hour or two...

Walking the Camino Portugues with children!

Having just written that - it looks like the Xunta are working on this: La Xunta estudia tramos alternativos para mayor seguridad de los peregrino. El trazado del Camiño Portugués a su paso por el municipio de Padrón mejorará de forma considerable en los próximos meses, gracias a la...

Walking the Camino Portugues with children!

I haven't walked it with children, but based on my experience of walking from Valenca (the town before Tui) last September, I'd be slightly concerned about the long stretches of Camino that run alongside the main road. Last year there were quite a few diversions (I think due to forestry and...

Credencial in Santiago, Valenca or Tuy

I believe you can get them from the albergue in Valenca, although it was closed when I passed there last year. You can definitely get them from the cathedral in Tuy though, from a very bad-tempered monk.

    The Camino in November

Hi Ed, I started in Valenca the other week but as it was really early, and I wanted to get going I didn't find anywhere to obtain the credencial until the cathedral in Tui. I'd arrived on the morning train from Vigo which was an excellent service, but due to the time change between Spain and...

    October trip

I'm leaving for Tuy on Friday and can't wait!

Where to obtain the credencial in Valenca / Tui

I'll be walking from Valenca in the last week of September. Does anywhere there issue credenciales, or should I wait to get one from Tui?

    Starting in Tui

Brilliant; thanks for all your replies. Flights are now booked so I'd better get in training. xxx
