Ola - in May 2014 I stayed at the Santa Clara convent near Coimbra - in which one finds the resting place
of Rainha Isabel. She actually has two coffins, ....[ who knew that this was an option?] - One of the coffins even features an image of the pilgrim's shell.
And according to my...

Dear Laurie and All
A wee 'chime in' here - a peregrina from Lisboa to SdC - May 2014 (before those spiffy boardwalks appeared)
It's perhaps a 'fruitless' debate if one would look for a 'winner'.
In my experience of life in general and Portuguese Caminho in particular - much has to do with...
indeed - you are quite right - it's the "new" one (As Gustavo, 'my' guide then also shared that the "new" one is the largest/most 'intact' Baroque Convent in Europe ). Unfortunately, no photo taking permitted - hence I am not able to share any of the courtyard and other marvelous sights, etc...
Below (or wherever those images will be posted) - are a few photos of the pilgrim place of the mentioned Convento site. taken 2014 during my caminho there - Fond memories -
Bom Dia.
Can relate... hence i chose to take the train back to lisboa vs other means. Went very well. (With stops in Porto and Santarem for “restdays” and some more visiting/ exploring).
Plenty of info found on this forum reg options.
Best wishes. Bom caminho.
churches are plenty - finding them OPEN is another question.

bom caminho!
with weatherpatterns going hay-wire all over the worlds, one can't really answer that with any level of certitude.
(i found it helpful to consult www.wunderground.com - pick a location/region and go to the historic section of the website and query the months of April/May of 2011 onwards ... that...
how auspicious to set out on your birthday - starting a new cycle of life with a pilgrimage -
This schedule appears to be of such nature that it does not leave much time/space to meander, explore the places you walk through.
you don't share any info regarding your pacing - what is your walking...
greetings and bom caminho -
i for one really enjoyed the section lisboa - porto. yes, not as many albergue perhaps - but still stayed in a few along the way (wrote about it on this forum ... posted ca july 2014 or thereabouts) and more have opened since i walked the camino. (which are listed...
you are welcome ---
and: "Sometimes the best thing to do is to just go and find out the right path as you're walking. ;) It is a spiritual journey after all, so why not let yourself be led? That being said, I'm still researching. :)"

A pilgrimage indeed does sound right! so very sorry for your heartbreak ...i can relate more than i ever thought i needed to - (be able to relate)
i found a pilgrimage to be a very suitable way of honouring yourselves and the ones you have lost thru death.

~ I found the Portugese well marked with arrows (with one exception) - only got 'lost' once in four weeks.
Good and plenty opportunities to procure good food and drink or good cooked meals.
Always found a bed...
Some years ago i read a blog about a family doing the portuguese in dec/january.
Forgot exact title of blog... something of Blue Pony camino.
Perhaps it is still an active blog. The particular weather challenges were well described...
