They are out to get me

If really threatened I twirl my flagged baston like a giant propeller as I walk!

They are out to get me

It is nice to warm up for a day’s walk on the coast—level, lovely, and a bit more tranquil beginning for the Portugese Way Buon Camino!

They are out to get me

I walked Matosinhos to Vila de Conde and took a taxi to start at Rates. Can’t remember exactly but was probably because of the route.

They are out to get me

I use my staff or trekking pole, tie a caution orange tape flag to it and hold it horizontally across my body to the width I want for safety and if usually keeps them clear... unless they want to scratch their paint on your baston.

    Bloody cobblestones!!

The granite setts were a bear to walk on. I walked the entire Frances without blisters, but by day three on the CP I was in agony though I wore the same boots with insoles. I saw many spots where there were piles of these granite stones by roadside where they were clearly going to add more to...

Camino as a balm for grief

@KinkyOne, Your story brought tears to my eyes. Thank you. Another moment on the Camino: I requested that my husband, who was walking with me on the third day after my mother's death, take my picture at the 6km milestone from Santiago, holding a bouquet of wildflowers I had picked in...

Camino as a balm for grief

Oehoeboeroe! That is a wild name. Ouroboros is the esoteric symbol of the serpent eating its own tail: eternity. Thanks, Purky, for that fascinating side note. Hoot.

Camino as a balm for grief

Thank you all so much for your prayers and stories. They are all healing and very comforting. The Camino is a blessed place to celebrate and contemplate mortality. And always there are angels coming to meet us on the Way to help us through our grief, and sometimes we find we are also those...

Camino as a balm for grief

I returned a couple weeks ago from walking the Portuguese from Porto to Santiago with my husband, Stuart. On my 9th day of walking, somewhere near Caldas de Reis, I got news from my sister that my mother died that morning. I knew that she was in decline before I left for Portugal, but did not...

Camino Portugues - 4 days walking to SdC

Yes, it seems that Uber services have been banned in Portugal, at least according to what I have found out in on-line articles.

Camino Portugues - 4 days walking to SdC

Hi sarah, Actually, yes we do if we are to complete the Porto to Santiago route in 11 days of walking. It would be nice to have more time, but that is the long and short of it. We are breaking one stage to stay at Casa Fernanda, but that is our only slip day we can afford. Bom Caminho!

Camino Portugues - 4 days walking to SdC

I was going to ask a similar question, which is about the availability of Uber or Lyft cars on the Camino Portugese. With the longer stages each day on the CP which will require keeping to a schedule I am not sure we can manage on foot the entire way, I am wondering about the options between...

    Bed rush on the Portugues

Thank-you for the clarification on Corpus Christi, Ascension!

    Bed rush on the Portugues

Yikes! @falcon269 , if the festival for Fatima is May 12-13, does that mean that the days leading up to the festival will make for a heavy number of pilgrims on the CP on the days leading up to May 12-13....if so, like a whole week or ten days of crowded conditions? I understand that May is...

    Bed rush on the Portugues

When is the Corpus Christi long weekend?

April 13 Lisbon Jordi Savall concert

I love Jordi Savall--everything I have ever heard just sends me!! I am sorry to miss this. I have much Montserratt Figueres and Jordi Savall music to listen to when I walk the camino. It was the most magical music to listen to when I walked the Frances in 2012. I can't tell you how many times...

Starting from Porto on May 3, hoping to reach Santiago on the 13th.

    Central route (I think?)

Wonderful! I gather you made it to Santiago to hear the concert. I was sad that your blog ended here, but am grateful for your tips!
