Self guided tour organisers, Via Francigena

Back in 2018 a friend and I used Caminoways for the Siena to Rome section. All worked out very well, and the stages and accommodation were generally pretty good. (I have no connection to the company).

    First Day Out of Calais

I really enjoyed the walk to Wissant. It did not start out that well, as I was walking behind a large sand dune, so there were no views of the ocean and it was quite sandy and tough to walk. I eventually turned to the main road feeling somewhat frustrated. After passing through a long town (I...

accommodation list for the italian part of via francigena

Thanks very much for your work on the accommodation list. I am hoping/planning on walking the section from Aosta to Siena in the autumn of next year. Your list will be very useful.

Best accommodation on the italian francigena

When I walked with a friend from Siena to Rome last summer, the one place that really stood out for me was Agriturismo Passalacqua. It is outside the small town of Gallina, which was about 4-5 days south from Siena. It is situated on a hilltop, looking down into the valleys on three sides, and...

Via Francigena April 2019 - Any help most appreciated!

A friend and I walked the VF from Siena to Rome last summer (late June/early July). It was hot, but not exceptionally so. We finished up in early afternoon most days. We probably saw 7-8 others over the 15 day walk. It's a great journey with beautiful towns.

    Enjoy your journey!

    Siena to Rome - June/July 2018

The GPS track that we used was from the link below. They claim to be the official app for the VF. Just a quick note of caution: Both my friend and I had downloaded this to our phones. My friend had no problems, as it worked every time. Mine only worked about 33% of the time. For the rest of the...

    Siena to Rome - June/July 2018

It has been almost 3 weeks since a friend and I finished the Siena to Rome section of the Via Francigena, so I thought I would post some comments on it before it all recedes into the past. We walked it from June 18-July 2, 15 days of walking to cover about 275 kms. Overall, I would say it was an...

    Italian options

A friend and I just returned last week from doing the Siena-Rome stages on the Via Francigena. It was an outstanding walk. Other than Siena, it was not touristy at all until we reached Rome. We remarked a few times about how there did not seem to be anyone about. Very few tourists in the streets...

    Via Francigena

I walked the opening section from Canterbury to Arras last summer and really enjoyed it. It was a short trip, only 11 days, but I wrote up a summary on this Forum last August entitled "VF to Arras". You may want to take a look and see if there is anything there that helps. Good luck!

Recommendations for a two week section in Italy

A friend and I will be walking from Siena to Rome in June/July. We are going to do that over the course of 15 days, so I believe it averages out to about 19 kms per day. We are using a tour company, so if the information they have provided is correct, the distance should be about 285 kms in...

    New App.

Thanks very much for sharing this. I have the Sloways app and another VF route on MAPS.ME, but this must be even more up to date. I will be doing the Siena to Rome section in June/July this year, so this will be used!

    Siena to Rome September 2018

Hi: A friend and I will be doing that same section, but we will be out there in late June/early July. Don't ask me why we picked what might be the hottest time of year. I don't have an answer for that. Once I am home, I'll likely do a brief write up of how it went in order to keep the info on...

    Siena to Rome in December/January?

A friend and I plan to do the section Siena-Rome in June this year. As suggested by @domigee, check out the Sloways app. It is free to download. They market themselves as the "official partner of the European Association of Vie Francigene". Once completed, I would love to hear how your journey...

    Canterbury Cathedral

I was looking through my VF photos today and I remembered that I had intended to comment on the positive experience I had when I went to the Cathedral in July to pick up my credential. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon and there were about 20 people in line to pay to enter the Cathedral grounds...

    VF next week!

Have a great journey. I look forward to hearing about it!

    VF To Arras

That's an interesting idea. I never would have thought of that. I am not much of an artist, but that might just work.

    VF To Arras

On the French side there were a number of signs pointing the way. There were usually two signs - one for each direction, depending which way you were walking. These were usually on a post, on a fence, on a tree, etc. The signs were in the form of a yellow arrow, with the blue & white VF logo...

    VF To Arras

Most of the yellow signs I saw on the ground, if not all, specified that the VF was following the GR145, and if you look at the website http://www.viefrancigene.org/en/resource/statictrack/la-via-francigena-francia/ it says that "The Via Francigena stretch in France is approved by Fédération...

    VF To Arras

Having recently returned from walking this section of the VF, I can safely say that there does not appear to be a lot of interest in this part of the route. However, in order to try to keep the information on the Forum reasonably current, and in the hopes that the VF will gain some traction...
