It took me a week to walk from O Cebreiro to Santiago so it is doable. If you get the bus to Piedrafita you can either walk (5km) or get a taxi up to O Cebreiro. (It's uphill all the way so I recommend the taxi!)

I agree that a fleece is fine - with a lightweight cagoule for when it rains. I walked in May and didn't take gloves - which I regretted as the mornings were a bit cold. Wearing layers is a good idea - it can get pretty hot as the day progresses,

I agree with Wulf. My husband and I did the camino in May and walked from O Cebreiro to Santiago in 7 days as we could only get a week off work. There was enough time to enjoy the scenery and appreciate the experience. It's not about how far you walk - although you do need to walk at least...
If the spiritual element of the pilgrimage is important to you, O Cebreiro is a good place to start - 152km from Santiago. You can get the bus from Santiago to Piedrafita and there's a taxi service up the hill if you don't want to walk the 5km to the village.
