    Choosing my Camino

I like what Annie has to say. If you are flying into Madrid, the easiest thing to do is do the Madrid Camino, starting there and heading north. It is quite easy walking and if you decide to stop, say in Segovia, you can catch the train back to Madrid and fly home

    How Important Is The Compostela?

I think that the church is wanting to funnel people to Santiago. This mass has become a theatrical production ,with money being paid to make the ball swing, and paid pack storage, and who knows what else! Over 2 million tourists come to Santiago yearly, and a few hundred pilgrims scattered around...

Is that a good or a bad thing? That's assuming these two things really exist!

    How Important Is The Compostela?

Cannot the camino be whatever one chooses it to be? Saying that it has to be this or that seems to be missing the whole point of the thing

    How Important Is The Compostela?

Please give Rhun or others their own views on this matter. Maybe he could have worded it more to your liking, but has the right to say what he wants,as do you. We seem to be arguing semantics, while the bigger picture is that we are engaging in a wonderful experience, whatever the reasons.

    How Important Is The Compostela?

I agree. I look at mine and think of all the wonderful placed that I have walked. We,in the est seem to not be happy if we do not get a trophy or certificate, although the journey is more important than the prize!

    How Important Is The Compostela?

Dear Rhun, We each have a different journey to take in this world. People asked me in Santiago if I was going to mass, and being Catholics they seemed surprized when I said no. Arriving in Santiago was not the end of a wonderful journey,as I went on to the ocean and my real end. Each of our...

Dear Bob. We stayed in Lavacola, and I remember skirting around the end of the airport, and following the posts into Santiago. We saw no other people until we were in Santiago. We did not see any of the statues and other things commonly seen on the frances, with Santiago in the...

Good for YOU! From Lugo you can take the Camino Verde west and take the Norte for 12 km and at booklet you can go to Lavacola and then to santiago, completely avoiding the France's. The way is well marked and very nice, especially the first part out of Lugo which is simply enchanting! BUEN Camino!

Dear Clare. I walked this route last September and found it delightful! I took the train from Madrid, which was long and tedious. It was great to Leon, but after that was on a narrow gauge track that was are night, frankly scary. I would recommend flying into Oviedo. I had jet lag and did not...
