    Today my arrows are green

Probably not happening this year but why do they hold a St Patrick's day parade in Pamplona. Of course, the first St Patrick's parade was held in St Augustine, Florida in the early 1600s. By the Spanish of course

    Envisioning the Camino Post Virus

I doubt anyone will be returning to the camino this year. The people of Spain will be suffering from the trauma for a while after travel restrictions are lifted. If I were a hospitalero, I would not want to even contemplate opening again this year

    Finding alburques already booked???

Many albergues, like hotels only allow a certain amount of reservations and keep some for walk ins. Try using onlypilgrims.com You will pay €1 or 2 extra but as far as I know, you are dealing directly with the albergue rather than a booking site. Or do as I do. Start walking between 6:30 and 7...

    Starting Camino Frances April, 2019

Semana Santa is a great time in Spain. I was lucky to experience it in smaller villages then into a big city, Burgos, for Easter Sunday. Absolutely fantastic. One thing to watch for though is the two weekends. As it is a Spanish holiday, we found that dinner was not being served until much later...

Would like thoughts of veteran pilgrims.

Always especially when looking back down the trail you have just climbed. Great photo by the way.

Would like thoughts of veteran pilgrims.

Five times walking on the Frances, completed it three times, never once disappointed. If you are looking to recreate experiences, you wont. Every one is different. Even last time when I fell in a river and had to be rescued was a whole new camino to be looked back on and believe it or not...

    Diabetes & the camino

I am type 2 and have been on the camino 5 times. Not for the first time, I forgot to take my medication but the exercise was keeping my blood sugar levels in check. Sometimes it is hard to get breakfast in the first 5 to 10 kms and metformin must be taken with food so occasionally I did forget...

    Bilbao to Pamplona by Bus

OOOPs, just noticed the dates on the original posts, silly me :)

    Bilbao to Pamplona by Bus

Hi Lydia, are you off again. Not long back and flew home from Bilbao. If you have been in Bilbao before you will find the bus station very unfamiliar. It is undergoing major renovation and a lot of it has been knocked down. The old ticket offices and platforms are gone from what I could tell...

    Walking French Camino May 3

Have you heard anything about Auberge du Pelerin being closed. Pilgrims with reservations have turned up today, March 29th, to find it closed. I too have a reservation for April 6th but can find no information. Their web page no longer exists and booking.com are not taking bookings for it

    Here I go again

Any thoughts on route you are taking. As a plan B, I have been researching the Valcarlos route and beginning to think I might like to do that regardless if whether Napolean is open or not. I did Napolean three years ago so maybe Valcarlos will be a change.

First time pilgrim and going solo...

As far as I know you can fly from London Stanstead to Biaritz with Ryanair. There is a bus transfer between airports. I am flying 5th April Dublin to Biarritz so maybe meet you on the trail

    Here I go again

Been asking questions for some years now. ;) Answers I got on here helped get me started on my first camino. At the minute the big question cannot be asked. What is the weather like in the Pyrenees but I will ask that closer to the time

    Here I go again

I will say the same as I have said before, I will get there when I get there :). I may not even make it this time. My twins hit 30 late May and we are taking them on a cruise. If I have to stop short, then I will go back in September. I am not a fast walker and normally in no big hurry to get...

    Here I go again

Arriving St Jean April 5th. Taking express bouricot from Biarritz. Start walking on 6th. Not sure which route I will be taking but will go with pilgrim office advice

    my Camino april 2015

All packed....again. Will probably do it again :). No more walks for me. If I am not ready now, I will never be, besides just know if I go walking I will pull a muscle or something. Its just the way I am, always get nervous and ultra careful before travelling. Still have doubts about Napolean...

    my Camino april 2015

Very good Tuesday and Wednesday, cloudy with afternoon rain on Thursday. Wednesday I climb to Orisson, Thursday to Orreaga/Roncesvalles. Will need to get as much distance behind me on Thursday morning before the rain arrives in the afternoon
