We walked CPI in summer 2018, here is my report from there https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/field-and-mountain-report-from-portugues-interior-june-2018.56758/ Well, if you enjoy the comraderie and the social aspect of the camino you might find it a bit further along the way...
We walked from Viseu mid June 2018 and saw pilgrims only on the 9th day, over in Spain, in Verin, so it felt more like trekking in that respect. In the books/registers in albergues we saw that some people were 3-7 days ahead of us. That's my report from there...
My walking companion spoke Portugues so he called the municipalituies then. Locals are very helpful and warm so I think you'll manage there. More people speak English in Portugal then in Spain, maybe that'll help. I'd make a short list of phrases in Portuguese that'll help you to explain that...
I walked CPI in June 2018, we started in Viseu and made it to Santiago in 16 days without much effort. Wish there were longer stages available as some felt too short for me, for me the mountains felt not that streghnious there. These are our stages from Chaves, possible to walk in 9 days for...
yes, all the albergues we stayed in had excellent kitchens, very well equipped. We had a self-catering Camino, I decided to try it out for the first time and mostly cooked on the way in the albergues. We only eat out in Chaves on CPI, so we shopped before starting the way and carried food for...
Atually all the municipal albergues we stayed in on the route are quite spacy, so could accommodate large groups/10+ people, so you may try them as well, they are of good quality. The firemen headquarters/bombeiros in Vidago was a pleasant surprise as well, well, apart from thier blankets :) Re...
This is my description of the CPI in English: https://www.caminodesantiago.me/community/threads/field-and-mountain-report-from-portugues-interior-june-2018.56758/
There is also an active FB group now for this Camino which might be of great help - when we walked it there was none and the...
Hm, I should have guessed it! Google is not up to translating very emotional, colloquial, adventure travel writing :) Well, maybe should start writing in English :) Thanks, Elle!
Hi fellow walkers! I've finally managed to write about our experience on Camino Portugues Interior from Viseu - CPI - in my blog. Google Chrome translates everything now - very handy - if you can't read Russian :) Anyway, there are some pics there that look multilingual :) Bom Caminho to...

Thanks a lot, FreeCat! Looks interesting! Will have a look at it in detail when I feel like hiking. Yes, hiking/trekking as CPI felt more like that for me then smth else. Not a regular Camino experience anyway. Next time I'd be glad to see some pilgrims on the way from time to time :)
Hm, that'd be more like a hiking adventure then a proper Camino, but yes, there is smth being done here. Still terra incognita! :) Don't know if any of the albergues on the list are open already. Give us a shout if you dig smth out, very much interested in walking this route. Via Portugal...
All of the albergues were big enough to accommodate a group of 8-10 people. The only thing is to call in advance and arrange it: if another group like yours is on the way that might create chavoc. That's unlikely as this route is not yet popular as a Camino but is getting popular among the...
Keep posting here if you have a chance! Maybe I've missed smth important here. Would be interesting to hear from the road. Missing CPI a lot! Bom Caminho! :)
Camino markings:
Yellow Camino arrows mostly, very well-marked from Viseu to Peso da Regua, freshly painted over the old faded arrows. Then some less frequent and irregular arrows all the way till the Spanish border. Some arrows were missing in some strategic places. A couple of arrows pointed...
Equipment: I’ve never walked in the mountains or even hills so I braced myself for a hard walk. It was harder then normal, but manageable with the right shoes and trekking poles that were essential for this Camino. Walked in trail running shoes, was fine, a bit slippery on the cobblestones in...
We walked CPI in June 2018, starting from Viseu in Portugal - all the way to the Spanish border and onwards to Camino Sanabres from Verin/Laza to Santiago. It took us 8 days to cover CPI, and 16 days in total (CPI + Sanabres) of going up and down the hills. Here is some info that might be...
