Probably not a "better" option, but perhaps a more interesting one-I took a train to Lisbon and to US from there. Shortest plane ride to states is via Lisbon and the train ride is awesome. Plan to do it again when I do a Portuguese Camino in May.
I was in a similar situation in May, 2013. I had a round trip ticket from Lexington, KY through Charlotte. After completing my Camino a few days early, I paid $300 to return early. Since I purchased my original tickets at a decent price, I felt okay about it. It would cost about the same if I...
Flew to Madrid from the states and then on to Santiago. Courteously, the flight was about the same price regardless if I flew to Madrid or Santiago. Flights to Paris were not so accommodating. Once in Santiago, I took a train east to Leon and hiked back to Santiago. Plan to do something similar...
I did exactly what you plan to do starting this past April 30 and arriving in Santiago on May 17. I would take a cab, especially since you would be splitting the cost. Should not be more than 7 or 8 euros each and will take about 15-20 minutes. Trains leave frequently for Leon and if you catch...
I plan to complete my Camino by about May 28 and then need to travel to Lisbon to catch my flight back to the US. Can I catch a train from Santiago de Compostela, a bus, train/bus combination? Any suggestions?
In late May, I flew from the states to Paris and then on to Pau, France for a hiking trip on the French/Spanish border. I believe that Pau is just a short train ride from SJPP. Surprisingly, the plane ticket was less than $100 dollars more than it would have been had I gotten off at Paris.
Thanx a heap. Although not a Catholic, I did know that info, but had forgotten. Seems like these senior moments are becoming more frequent for this 67 year old guy. Thanks again.
I am planning a hike from Leon to Santiago next May and also plan to return back to the states through Lisbon. Is there something special about Fatima that I would not want to miss? And are there trains from Santiago directly to Leon? Thanks.
