Stay in St Jean
I stayed at Itzalpea with a friend but it was back in 2012. Looking at pics it seems to have been renovated since then as I remember charming old fashioned/rustic style rooms with very wonky floors. We had a good stay though.- LdnWalker

The municipal campgrounds are generally quite cheap although some aren’t open all year. As summer winds down it might start getting harder to find open ones. Hotel near Madrid airport
I’ve stayed at the airport hotel which is handy for getting in or out late/early and once I stayed at the Melia Barajas. It was a very nice hotel (I must have gotten a good deal) and they had a shuttle from the airport. There’s a few eateries and supermarkets nearby but the hotel itself was nice...- LdnWalker

Getting to sarria
There’s a bus that stops at the airport on its way out from Santiago. Last time I managed to get a direct bus (stops in every village though) to Sarria but some require you to change in Lugo. No problems. I got a lift with Caroline from Express Bourricot although apparently some others from the same flight managed to get to the last train in time. Biarritz Airport.
I am arriving at Biarritz about 30 minutes before you and have booked Express Bourricot to pick me up and take me to St Jean. Contact them if you want to share a ride - it will probably cost more than the 20 euro hotel room but would let you start walking on Sunday if you wanted to.- LdnWalker
