    Traveling from Texas

@HappyToBeBeBe, the three best pieces of advice above which all resonate with me are: and and Perhaps it is a blessing in disguise that he suddenly has the time available to do this.

visiting from australia. where should we fly into

I'm noticing that the thread is veering off into a 'Which airline to fly' discussion. I agree with @dick bird. Madrid will definitely be the best place to fly into. And Barcelona is so different from the other cities you will see, it will be an exciting place to end your Camino.

A new means of transporting luggage and people at SJPDP

I had a bad experience last year with Express Bourricot at Biarritz. I flew from Ireland with my bike in a big bag. I had to wait for it to come through. Then when I got it I realised I had to find the toilet. When I finally came out to the concourse the few passengers had already left. I made...

At what time does your flight arrive?

The best way from Bilbao to logrono

I think @Anthony Rocco 's suggestion is best. In Logrono I can personally recommend the pension which is part of the albergue. Very central and you can book a twin room. They have a late check-in until 2300. And it will be simple to arrange forwarding your bags the following morning.

Private Transport for 4 Pilgrims and 4 bikes (Logrono to Burgos)

I have bussed with my bike Logrono to Burgos. I bought a cheap blue-tarp at a chinese bazzar, trimmed it and made a simple sack with tape. You have to take the wheels off. There are 6 buses per day so it will be do-able for 4 of you on a couple of different buses. I rode my bike to the...

Private Transport for 4 Pilgrims and 4 bikes (Logrono to Burgos)

With respect, Tinka 7hrs non-stop on a loaded bike is not to be sniffed at. I might make it with a good following wind.

    Recon Madrid

Ah. I was unaware. It looks to be very closed on Google Street. Last there in 2018.

    Recon Madrid

I have stayed twice at Hostel Las Musas, which is close to Tirso de Molina metro. I think it would fit the bill nicely. Check out their website. They have doubles, triples and dorms with bunk beds. Very lively atmosphere.

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

Thank you all above for your considered replies. Although I've been on the forum for many years, I think it's the first time I've posted directly seeking advice! It really helps to clarify thinking.

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

True. This model cost me over A$500. My bike is a top-of-the-range carbon Scott Scale MTB. Makes one think twice about transporting it with minimal protection. Riding a camino on my own bike is a real joy.

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

I've flown my bike with this soft bag several times. A case I think of as a rigid polycarbonate "box".

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

A little more info. I'm flying from Aus with the empty bag, which folds down like this: My bike has been in Cork with my son since 2019. I was going to use it the following year. I'm flying to Biarritz and getting Express Bourricot transport to SJpdP where I will re-assemble the bike. I'm...

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

I'm inclined to agree. The Ryanair flight connects perfectly with my onward flight to Aus. But that irritating "what if" bothers me, and I might fly a day in advance. My second Frances - a leisurely ramble this time. Starting May 27th.

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

I've never had a problem personally with Ryan Air, but have certainly heard of others who have. For clarity, this is the bag in question.

Travelling with a bike from SdC to Madrid Barajas.

I’m frustrated that I can’t make up my mind about the best way to do this. In my original planning for my upcoming Camino in 2 months, I had simply assumed I would take the train - fast, fun, convenient and not particularly expensive. My mistake was assuming that I tick all the boxes because my...

Best way to SJPDP from USA

I'm surprised that @Bradypus is the only one to have mentioned this in the whole thread. I came to the same conclusion for my travel in May.

Is it good to fly into Bilbao or Biarritz?

I took the Biarritz option in 2015. EB met the plane from Dublin which was carrying 6 or 7 pilgrims. A great service, and I intend to use it again this year.

Is Business Class Worth the Extra Cost for Long Haul Flights to Madrid?

I agree. To be fair to Qantas the economy fare is about A$3500. I did use it last year to visit family. I found it very convenient, without the usual transfer in the Middle East in the middle of the night. But then I'm in WA. I was surprised though that were plenty of passengers ex Melbourne.
