Hi, I have flown TO Spain Dublin-Biarritz and Spanish airports with Ryanair, for many years, with folded/disassembled poles inside my carry-on pack. No problem with Dublin Airport security, and Ryanair none the wiser. Returning from Spanish airports is another matter-- see other threads here on...
Recently back from Logrono to Dublin! If you turn left from the bus station, onto Genl. Vara del Rey, after three blocks, turn right (westward) onto Calle Duque de Nájera, and seven blocks later, to the left, you'll see the blue bridge into Parque San Miguel--arrows from there.
I'll leave a copy...
Good heavens--all this for one little bus ticket!!!?? But very glad you succeeded, as that was so important to you! (and Falcon has the answer for almost everything--I'd love to know how Falcon does that!!!
Anyway, I certainly did mean 'hypocritically', since I plan my own recidivist caminos...
Dear Ark Builder,
As others have suggested, 'digital firm' probably means firma/signature, maybe like many people use with their emails?? And I personally wouldn't be happy to do that online. I travelled from Barajas by bus in 2011 (to Astorga), and it worked out smoothly. I think I paid...
Grainne,
Since I don't know where you left off last time, I'm not sure how to help. But I flew from Dublin to Santander some years ago and had a beautiful 3 hour bus ride down to Burgos. The Santander airport is so close to the centre of the city and the bus station that it worked out very...
I agree--either Santander or Bilbao (depending on flight times). The 3? hour bus from Burgos to Santander is beeuutiful, but the Ryanair timing may not work. Shorter bus to Bilbao and Aer Lingus has late afternoon flights I think. You can check bus timetables in English quite easily on...
Dear Dee,
Aer Lingus fly Tues/Thurs/Sat direct Dublin to/from Santiago and their fares are good (I think). No Friday flights, tho. You'd arrive about 3.35pm, so you could perhaps get a bus that evening from Santiago to Ponferrada (as Al says, buses are direct and take 3 1/2 to 4 hours). I'd...
If either/or, then perhaps Brierley because of the good maps. The CSJ guide has similar in text, and more extensive suggestions of accommodations, recommended by members. Both are updated annually, and they are well worth having. I buy the maps-only version of Brierley's CF guide, and make...
I have had passport-checks before flight departures at Spanish and Italian airports recently, if that has any relevance to this complicated question.
(Ireland participates in some Schengen matters--with 'opt-outs'; we are sometimes copycats of our nearest neighbour, although declaring ourselves...
Ahh, pardon me. I stupidly thought Abel and Vicky were starting a new thread, and all the info is already given above. Like others have said , I need to look back to see the important stuff!
Dear Abel and Vicky,
A very quick reply. YES, I'm sure you will find buses virtually everywhere along your Camino route. If you use one of the guidebooks (CSJ or Brierley) you'll find reasonably-priced hostales that you can book ahead. And if you want to stay in the albergues/refugios, I...
Dear Tixunau,
I'm sorry to further complicate this thread, but since you are travelling home to Canada and maybe not an EU citizen, I would suggest getting to Santiago airport about 90 minutes ahead of your flight. My understanding is that you need to call to the check in desk to have your...
My letter from the British Airport Authority concerning UK/EU Airport Security regulations for trekking poles is already on this forum, quoted by Johnie Walker on 8 March 2012, in a previous thread. I have seen queues of passengers at Aer Lingus departure gates with telescopic poles sticking out...
I am away from home til the weekend. should be able to quote the official letter then for you. Mind you, it referred to airport security--not to the rules of any specific airlines on cabin luggage.
Dear Tixunau,
The above answers are certainly correct, if a bit off-putting. Hilarious Peregrino Tom obviously hasn't heard about the recent charm offensive, a most-welcome change of marketing strategy, from Michael O'Leary of Ryanair--whom we hate to love (or vice versa, in Tom's case). I...
