Easy and cheap to Saran Wrap your pack , I have never had a problem and pack stays clean , also I separate my walking pole and tape together so as not to be the longest thing in pack and therefore not subject to breakage
If at Samos I hope you can take. A your, it’s worth the hour. Be sure to see the Primitivo chapel near the river, I thinks that’s the original Samos. The new buildings were built by Franco in the 50s& 60s
I don’t know the shoes but I have walked two Caminos with the same shoes. I generally carry walking sandals for town times& showers . But I can’t understand expensive walking shoe going bad on one 800 k trek
I have flown thru Dublin for the Camino three times and it works well . I did arrive in Dublin tired and anxious so twice I spent the night there , took the bus into town ( 30 min) ate and relaxed & enjoyed Dublin and stayed at the airport hotel . The the next day flew to Biarritz. I arrived...
I have had good luck flying to Dublin and then catching a Ryanair flight to Bayonne where a local shuttle bus get you to Birratz. That’s the gateway via bus or train to SJPP
From my experience the likely hood of a French Labor strike in Paris during August is 75%. But the average rail strike is one week so your likelyhood ( three days) is 20%. The percent of union members in France is less than the USA , but they are all in the French transport sector near Paris. So...
I have walked out of Leon half a dozen times and thought it was fine. There a a few cafe/ bakery’s on the track and even a couple of “hobbit houses” where they store wine and veg. When you get to “ virgin of the Camino” so you can arrive at “Marashrife”
As to train vs air travel in France/EU remember the French Government owns the trains but not the Airlines . The trains are completely unionized but the airlines much less
I was with my son and with the pack and i gard was obvious we were pilgrims ready to start. They were young couple going to see SJPP as tourists, felt safe and friendly
I have had a good experience from the east coast, flying to Dublin , spending the night, then flying to Biritz( in france) then a shutte to Bayonne where there is a quick bus or train to SJPP. The Ryanair was $25 , the shuttle $2 and bus $10. That was I was not exhausted when the next day you...
I like flying into Dublin and spending the night near the airport. Then in the morning fly with Ryanair to Biarritz direct ( $25) then the airport shuttle to Bayonne where you can catch the train or bus to SJPP. I didn’t arrive exhausted .
You can catch an shuttle from terminal to Bayonne train station, the shuttle goes on a loop so be sure it goes straight to the train station . From there a train goes to SJPP or request a taxi at visitor center that can carry 4 pilgrims . Price similar
Probably not unless to hire a car( don't do that ) you need a good night's sleep before you start , so at least spend the night in SJPP and you will need a taxi from the train station to SJPP but you can easily do that, approach anyone with a pack
