Deba to Zarautz or Zarautz to Deba?

Transport to your hotel is no problem. You‘ll find train stations of the Feve narrow gauge railway in Deba, Zumaia and Zarautz, which takes you back to San Sebastián. As far as I remember they serve both directions hourly.

    Ferry to bypass Irun

Irun to my opinion is an ugly industrial town, while Hondarribia is a lovely medieval town with historical buildings. And … Hondarribia has two very good icecream parlours which offer a variety of different tastes. When coming from Biarritz/St. Jean de Luz stay on the coastal path until...

Camino Del Norte Special Certificates or Stamps

    No, not to my knowledge.

    Orio to Zarautz

The traffic on that road is low as it is a rural area. Sometimes walking on the shoulder is possible as far as I remember.

    Orio to Zarautz

The path itself is about 1.2 km long until you reach the sportsground. From there you have to take the small asphalt road again, which isn’t a highway, btw. You won’t avoid asphalt that much. I like walking along water, so I took the road.

Steep descent [ vertiginous] into Orio

Have you tried walking down fishtailing that section (zickzack)? It makes it less steep. Or turn around 180 degrees and walk slowly backwards. I usually got problems with my knees when walking downhill, until somebody told me not to straighten the knees. With that advice I kept my knees...

    Del Norte in 3 weeks

None to skip - do the whole distance. If no time, split it in two parts and come back next year to complete. My two cents.

    Comparing alpinista route with StJPdP-Ronscesvalles

May be one more word to the “alpinista-route“: I do agree to all the comments before, but ... If you come along the Jaizkibel in wet, rainy weather, the steep slope at the beginning is as slippery as yellow soap. You do 1 step forward and 2 steps back. In addition in rainy weather the top of...

    Camino Norte + heights

The bridge is accessible on both sides. This is the footpath on the right side of the bridge and it looks pretty much the same as on the lefthand side shown in the video. At the end of the bridge on the other side of the ria you either turn right to go the the albergue municipal or pass...

    Bilbao - Casto Urdiales

The way is well marked and the road wasn‘t very busy last year when I did it in april as there is a motorway (A8) leading parallel to it (may be a handful of cars). There‘s an alternative route (not shown on your map) along the coastline between El Pontarron and Villanueva. But I have no further...

    Start in Bilbao

Hi mokasritus, I can recommend the Poshtel hostel, bookable by e.g. booking.com. They offer bunkbeds in dorm rooms. The hostel is situated within a walking distance to the Guggenheim museum (5 min.), where you can start the camino. The neighbouring streets offer a big variety of tapas bars...
