On a clear day the higher route shouldn't be missed, one of the more scenic days of the Northern camino, I don't think accommodation will be an issue, It wasn't in May 2014 . . .
Buen Camino !
Hi SandyLeone.
In May 2014 I did YVR Vancouver to Amsterdam and connected the same day with a flight to Madrid. Overnight stay close to bus station in Madrid and caught a 5 or 6 hour bus ride to Irun, where I stayed at the Hostel which is a donativo (great spot!). Advantage of this type of...
Well, easy it is not …There is frequent climb and descent on both routes, more so on the Primitivo. The first day out of Irun is one of the most scenic days, so it'll keep you going. There is good support on both routes (albergues and cafe's) so you can modify your distances as needed. I've...
Did the Northern and Primitive route last year : You're going to love it ! Beautiful countryside, sea views, overall well marked route (we had trouble only one day, after Deba).
No need to race to the albergue for a bed, solitude can be found walking if that's what you desire . . .
Buen Camino !!!!
Hi Simpleton,
The hostel in Irun has credenciales for a couple of Euros. Average length is 807 km or so, just don't get lost, cause that way it'll be longer . . .
Taking your time is a great idea, There are a couple of long days,, day 1 being one of them, but the amazing scenery will keep you...
Hi Angeliki, Nice to see your post. From experience I can tell you, having walked the first half on Del Norte and then El Primitivo (turning off at Oviedo), returning to El Norte (Friol to Sebrado des Monxes) to meet up with friends and consequently finishing in Santiago in May and June of 2014...
Cost; have nothing to compare it to, but it was reasonable . . 50 euros/day is plenty
traffic : not busy (in May), more tarmac than I thought though . .
You'll enjoy the scenery and moderate solitude !!
Buen Camino !
Hello all. Walked the Northern/Primitivo Routes in the spring 2014. Looking to get contact info for 'Yasmin', from Australia with whom I walked the first 3 days . . . does anyone on the forum have contact info for her?
Thanks in advance.
:o) Peter.
Keep in mind that it opens at 4PM. You can also get your Camino shell there . . . (by donation)
Buen Camino ! The first day is stunning and exhausting, the Aubergue in Donestia is situated on the opposite side of the city : so just keep in mind that once you get there you still need to walk...
That would be the Camino Frances, the above author was referring to the Northern route I believe . . .
Maybe ask or research that section of the blog ? That said I believe it can be done, though depends on your walking speed etc . . .
