I was “stuck” in SS for 6 nights in 2019 due to a knee issue that required a visit to the ER. I was at Downtown River Hostal for two nights and at A Room in the City for four. Both are on Booking. The second is the better location, closer to the beach promenade and old town. I would...
Cudillero is a beautiful spot, but anyone that lives there must have legs of steel. I gave up on the idea of trying to climb the maze of alleyways leading to the top.
The bridge into Portomarín, on the Francés, isn’t as bad, but I walked in the road (not heavily traveled) rather than on the sidewalk next to the railing.
Fun fact: I’ve skydived three times.
I did the Norte in 2019. Prices definitely more than Francés with fewer choices. Irún is VERY high for what you get. You can see from this list that options and prices vary WIDELY.
May 6: Overnight Flight
May 7: Irún
Pensión Lizaso

May 8: Irún...
Your feelings describe mine to a “T.” I am glad that I am not alone. I get that same “throw myself off” feeling and I often use the word “irrational” in my comments to others. I could not touch the railing. I held on to the fence on the highway side, kept my gaze on my feet, and walked...
I just can’t be near an edge. If I lived in a high rise, I’d probably never go out on the balcony unless it was VERY wide and I could be sufficiently back from the edge.
P.S. I’ve been skydiving 3 times. Figure THAT out!
I did about two-thirds of the Norte on foot, the rest via bus or train because of poor weather. I too have the “unprotected edge” height issue and don’t remember anything that set it off - EXCEPT THAT BRIDGE - OMG!!! - THAT BRIDGE!!!!! There is a high fence on the traffic side, but the railing...
The church in the old part of San Sebastian, Santa María del Coro, has them. I saw them in a drawer behind the counter where I bought my ticket to visit the church.
I just did this route yesterday and the day before. In my opinion, Irún to Pasaia is far and away the winner. I had two completely cloudless days and it was absolutely AMAZING. I took the high route (purgatorio) which gives views both north and south. If the weather is bad, rain, fog, etc...
Gronze has it divided into 35 stages with about 10 of them over 25kms. That, of course, does not include any rest days, inclement weather days, or simply days taken for sightseeing in larger cities such as San Sebastián, Bilbao, Santander, Oviedo, etc. I want to do it next year and have...
