Norte this July...
Apart from the advise to travel light, I always take a 'knee band' with me for just the little extra support (especially steep downhills!). Forget about the dog repellent, the few ones are used to peregrinos. Bon camino!- GeraldD

In the busy times it would be advisable to try to book friday and saturday a few days in advance if you want to be sure. The locals often book hostels for the weekends. Alternatively you could avoid bigger cities in the weekends. Assume that you have your options also known from www.gronze.com...- GeraldD

Yes bus schedule info is often available in the Auberges and hostals. In general peregrinos take the Metro out of Bilbao and the train out of Santander (to Mogro) to avoid some 'boring' parts. Buying a guidebook in Bilbao?
A combination ticket of Guggenheim + Bellas Artes is 16Euro and valid at different days. Note the Guggenheim is closed on mondays and Bellas Artes on tuesdays. The museums are open till 8 PM, so 1 in the evening and 1 the next morning. (check the websites for temp exhibitions...- GeraldD

Train to Irun
Hello Ellen, I'm flying with Ryanair from Weeze to Santander (return abt 70 Euro) and take the bus (Alsa.es) from Santander to Irun (abt 15 Euro). I will not walk the whole CdN, but only 2,5 wks. For train tickets: to book 3 months in advance will give you the lowest fares. Bon camino,- GeraldD
