    Doubts after Day 1

The shock absorbing poles work best for me. I have begun both of my walks without them and invariably was found wanting them. I usually found some along the way. Next time I'll bring my own.

LIVE from the Camino Camino Lessons: You get what you pay for.

Ha ha ha ha...... Oh yes, cheaper not much better. I bought 9 dollar trainers in Guatemala recently. The bottoms peeled right off. Lasted about 2 weeks so I just rolled with them for another 2 months until the soft rubber took on the shape of my feet. Now back in the US I just spent 100.00 on...

Suggestions for Camping along the Camino Del Norte

I did quite a bit of camping on the French Route. IT IS ILLEGAL TO WILD CAMP IN SPAIN. Or so I was told. Nobody ever bothered me. BUT I was very careful to stay well hidden. You can camp in the plaza behind the church in Granon. I worked as a volunteer there and we had a few campers. I knew...

    Wild camping and legal alternatives

I camped and it is wise to be stealthy and respectful. They are a little more easy going on the French Route but you still run the risk of a heavy fine. AND it does not hurt to ask. Many of the municipal alburgues especially in Galicia will let you camp. I did not eat many hot meals either. I...

Safety! Recent reports say pickpockets & thefts are way up in Spain

I've asked you a billion times not to exaggerate!

    Walking from Bayonne to Irun

Hey Biarritz Don. Are you saying you like the stretch between Bayonne and Irun? If so, is it well marked?

    Walking from Bayonne to Irun

Interesting. I am thinking about walking to Irun from Bayonne. I have been to the Cathedral in Bayonne. IN fact I think I stayed at the Parrochia in Bayonne. Or if not that it was a big retreat center or something kind of out in the burbs. I can't remember now it was 2 1/2 years ago. Maybe...

    Can I just wing it?

I'm going to basically wing it from Irun to Granon by way of the Tunnel Route. I can read a map (not that one can find a real topo in Spain) and use a compass. My Spanish is decent, I know up from down; sun rises in the east sets in the west; which end of a horse is which. The important things...

    Accommodation Irun - Day One

It's not a well known route and that's partly why I'm doing it. I also need to get to Granon on the CF. I have a posting there as a hospitalera for 2 weeks beginning Sept 1.

Are you walking the Tunnel Route?

My impressions and stages of Norte/Primitivo May 25-June 27, 2014

Can you be more specific about the guide book you mentioned? Dave Whitson/Laura Perazzoli...

    Accommodation Irun - Day One

I guess I may also stay at said Albergue but not until the 19th of August or so. Also, I plan to walk the Tunnel Route and that has it's own challenges I'm sure. Anyone else going that way late August?

    del Norte/Primitivo this fall?

Thanks for that. I am considering the Primativo in October as well. I don't mind the cooler weather but blinding blizzards can present issues. That is probably less the rule than an occasional early snowfall.

    Camping along the way

I read about you on the forum. If yer still on, would you share your experience of camping on the Primativo?

    New guide through Basque country

I take that back. The link has some extra characters. I cut and paste the appropriate address in a browser and found the site. Perhaps Ivar you can fix this.

    Camping

I camped some onthe Frances but found it somewhat inconvenient. it is technically illegal to wild camp in Spain and I did not get positive responses when I asked a out private land. I plan on doing some camping on my next pilgrimage in the fall. I'm not sure which route I will take yet though
