I'm northern European, I started in Seville on July 1st last year and I had a great time! Lots of great scenery, loads of interesting characters and I got a crackin' tan! Don't listen to the naysayers. Just carry enough water and it's really enjoyable. I didn't walk past 2pm but then, I didn't...
Donna, I'm Scottish so walking in the heat is fairly alien to me. I walked in July. There were other people, particularly after Zamora. Don't fret about the heat. You'll need very little in your backpack(everything dries so quickly) so transplant it with water.Wear a hat and you'll be grand. It...
Wonderful place.I didn't get to meet the priest, it was July and he was away, but his locum was a very nice bloke. He said he would cook the starter and main course and that we could chip in with anything else if we felt we wanted to.....everyone did and a great meal was had. Only five of us and...
leave at first light. Carry 3 litres and you'll be fine. I went in July and didn't meet anyone who took a taxi to the parquet. That said there weren't that many people. The road to the parquet is really quiet. I think I was passed by a dozen vehicles tops
Yes it's hot but very doable. I walked last July and there were very few others. It got a bit busier after Zamora but the most people in any albergue was about 15
Kiwi-family. Very steep! Certainly the part I took. I reckon most people (I know I did) approach it 12-1pm after 27km of walking. Also, it's early on on the camino so most people aren't in tip-top condition. It's the perfect storm for a tough climb. At least with the hill after Castrojerez you can...
Looking at that photo I think I walked up the wrong bit of the hill. I think I walked on the other side of the fence which was very sandy - difficult to get any purchase. I saw a brand new tent in its pack at the side of the track Someone had clearly given up carrying it.
Looks like you have done your research . There's nothing that should be beyond you. I walked last July and although it was hot it was rarely unbearable. Plenty of water and you'll be fine. There are some fairly remote stages where taxis could be an issue but a good map could help you by-pass...
I just followed the road most of that way after being advised after being advised by locals. Luckily it was on A sunday so traffic was minimal. I believe that this is caused by motorway construction rather than AVE work.
The Spanish guidebook is good but only for the layout and the maps. The written information it provides is poorly translated whimsical nonsense. It states where there facilities - Albergues, ATMs etc. but as it was published in 2010 for the Holy Year the info is likely circa 2009 so very dated...
There's a stretch after Grimaldo where you walk for what seems like hours (probably only 5/6km through populated cow fields. They can look intimidating but the path goes along the side of field and the cows are, on the whole, uninterested in you. I can't think of any other places where you have...
The vdlp is more than 1000km and if you pay for service (the distance certificate is a paid for service) you should have the distance recorded correctly. Truth is bloke in the office asked my how far I thought it was as he said he also didn't believe the figure on the official computer. He...
