I didn't time anything well, I just went back to Spain when I had the itch and followed advice on this forum as to where to go. As far as crossings, the one that was major was the first time I've ever started across any body of water and said, "um, no. I better not." Like I was about to get...
Holy week on the VDlP is a blast. But... prices go up and availability goes down. If I were to do it again, at the same time, I would book like a week in advance, rather than my usual 1-2 days. Don't let that discourage you tho. There is a parade every day!
Long days sometimes. Like I think I walked 36km without a water source on day 3 or 4, It wasn't bad because I knew in advance. On the first day I decided to combine the first two stages. I ended up saving a goat. but that is a different story.
I am in the same place. I've walked the VdLP multiple times (2), but never at that time of year. It's not social compared to other routes. Just to explore, this next time, Iim going to try the Mozarabe. I expect to meet no one, Once I get to Merida, back on the the VDlP, maybe i'll meet...
Be mindful that I think that is one of the days where a "normal" stop was closed earlier this year, like by a dam or something... I ended up doing a really short day into Casar de Caceres and then a regular day to Cañaveral.
I walked the Vdlp from Seville mid March through mid April 2023. Weather was great... never too hot, never too cold. I didn't get rained on until the day I crossed into Galicia! It definitely wasn't busy, except for Holy Week which was a blast. Distances between towns can be longer than other...
Salamanca was awesome the one time i did it before. I wouldn't skip that part. Nice university town, though my experience may have been influenced by a festival. They had musical groups set up all over the town from a local university.
Ok, I feel sort of guilty about this... but when I look at Rome to Rio i just take note of their suggestions and then go to carriers directly... sometimes more options listed and less expensive. I know, bad bad Damien.
Ok, so, like, i posted my questions way up above, and then this nice person from near me said privately they have an extra one and that they will send it to me. Some people ask about the camino spirit. well, I am thankful and will pay the effort forward.
Ok, just checked Google Maps. Hotel Simon is only 800 meters from Decathlon! Easy Peasy for poles! I'll just have travelled for like 20+ hours so I figure spending $60 for a room is worth it (reserved). Again, you are all so helpful.
